The Bulls just need to get a shooting guard, and I feel like they could run away with the East.
Stephen Jackson, Ben Gordon, Kevin Martin, Jason Richardson, and Gilbert Arenas are my shortlist of potential shooting guards I would like the Bulls to go out and get.
Arenas and Gordon would be the two that I target most, since they can play some point guard, and can carry the load offensively with the second unit. Arenas is a no go, because his contract would mean trading Korver, which is a guy I would try to keep.
So Ben Gordon would be the guy I target hardest, and I think Detroit might be willing to give him up, because he has a big contract, and for whatever reason, Keuster doesn't like playing him much.
I know it might be hard for the Bulls to take Gordon back because of Reinsdorf's dislike for him, but he would be a great fit on this current Bulls squad, and he has a willingness to try to just fit in as a role player, instead of trying to be a star...but he can stills step up and take over a game.
He has been insanely efficient this year, 63.2 ts% and is shooting 45% from three.
I would make the trade be Ronnie Brewer, C.J. Watson, and the Charlotte pick for him.
That would give us
PG-Derrick Rose/Ben Gordon
SG-Ben Gordon/Keith Bogans
SF-Luol Deng/Kyle Korver
PF-Carlos Boozer/Taj Gibson
C- Joakim Noah/Omer Asik
I think you get by without a real backup point guard (I think you still have to get one though, an upgrade over John Lucas), but you just play Gordon through Rose's rests, and try to play Rose 36-38 minutes a game. Let Gordon run with the second unit in the first half. You'd have Gordon/Korver/Gibson as the second unit offensive attack.
Finish the game with Rose/Gordon/Korver/Boozer/Noah.
I think Thibodeau's motion offense fits Gordon's game like a glove.
Could you imagine opponents having to chase around Gordon and Korver at the same time? Our offense would explode to the best in the NBA.
Right now, I think we're probably a low 50 win team. But get a legit shooting guard, and I think we will be pushing on 60 wins.
