At the 27:40 mark of the latest ESPN NBA podcast, Ryen Russillo of ESPN states that the Bulls called and inquired with Sacramento about Kevin Martin for Luol Deng:

The implication is, of course, that the Kings said no. But it's good to know that the Bulls would at least be willing to trade Deng. I would make that deal in a heartbeat.

oooOOOooooo. big fan of kevin martin, would love to see him in red n black but i really doubt theyd let him go. best chance wed have is if JR was the owner of the kings. hes the only guy dumb enough to let a scorer like that get away

The thing is they want to see how he plays with Evans, which I think could fail because Evans is more of a two than one. Also my take is that we would have to do one of two things: first one is probably give them Noah or give them expiring for either Beno Udrid or Nocini

I'd be game for that. Seems kinda dumb though, we did have BG and they are fairly similar, Martin just gets to the line more.

I actually mentioned this possible trade on my site.

Luol Deng for Kevin Martin (4 years, 9.6 per) and Donte Green - 2 years, 870 k, (N/G)

Why the Bulls make this deal:

* Bulls are in desperate need of a competent SG
* Martin’s game compliments Rose’s game much like Ben Gordon's game did (and for less money)

Why the Kings make this deal:

* They feel that Tyreke is their SG of the future (much cheaper too!)
* Kings are in need of a competent SF

I think this is a great trade for the Kings. It's not like they need cap space since odds are they won't be a major player in free agency anyways.

Ya, but the Kings want to be players in 2011 free agency. BTW we tried to trade Deng to Suns during offseason for Shaq. Deng+Miller for Shaq. Almost went down, but Phoenix front office was too worried about Deng's injury history

He's probably talking about this.

It wasn't with Miller because the suns wouldn't want to take on more salary in the deal.

This seems like a gamble but then again, worth taking the risk.

Both players are fragile and injury prone but when Martin's out there he can average 30 a game in his sleep! I hope we do this.

I guess he could have but Miller wouldn't have given as much back. Wallace was going to retire, which is why Phoenix wanted him. Wallace gave up like 4 mill.

He's averaging 30 over 5 games. Lets not get carried away here, he has never cracked 25ppg in a full season.

martin is cash from 3, without a pg like rose. imagine the looks he would get playing next to someone that demands as much attention as he does. him and tyreke though, could be a very scary backcourt, since tyreke can play point too (not sure how good he is at the point though).

I'd probably prefer to dump Deng for an expiring over this deal, but if this is the best on offer I'd take it.

I don't know. Martin gives us enough to guarntee we get someone good this offseason. Rose, Martin and Noah are a hell of a core. Dump Kirk or Salmons and we will get a bosh, stat or bron. The offense will be soo much better with Martin.

I don't know Martin guarantees us anything. Firstly he's out injured which means in the short term we'd be trading Deng for nothing, so if we make this trade we're a big risk to miss the playoffs. Secondly, even if we're good, there's always the chance the free agents decide to stick where they are, or just pick some other team.

Trades usaully are contingent on players passing physicals. So almost certainly this would be after Martin returns healthy and not as is. There is that chance but I think Martin gets us into the playoffs and that guys like Kirk and Salmons will improve being able to play off someone who stretches the floor and is the primary scorer. I wouldn't be surprised if we made a late run and got the 5th or 6th seed with Martin here. Salmons will aslo be much more comfortable to be back at the 3.
