Wow, I was like who is that dude.

Then I saw his profile and was like wow, he played 13 games for warriors and was a starter for 5 games???

I hope he helps us somewhat.

He is probably just a guy who they brought in for a practice dummy, and also to start getting some information on Tyler Hansborough. If the Bulls draft Hansborough, this guy might serve as a comfort friend for Hansborough.

More importantly.

Doug didn't break this piece of news.

Revolution! Doug is a fake!

;)

Good signing. Perfect thrid string combo guard for the playoffs.

Why? Nelson was a Dukey.

With that then, Nelson must be the new Duhon.

Interesting.

Well, not really. I doubt he sees much floor time. From what I remember of him of Duke, he can be a pretty crafty defender and is fairly athletic though. A good rebounder for a guard, but it likely won't matter all that much since he won't be on the floor enough to demonstrate that.

As a lifetime Duke fan I am excited to see Nelson getting a shot. Having him signed with an option for next year is interesting. Not sure why they would do that but that's fine. Nelson is not like Duhon at all. He is not a PG and does not have PG skills. He is a strong physical small shooting guard. More of a scorer than a shooter. Undersized at around 6'3. Very active player who rebounds well for his size. Very good athlete who is good defensively. Definitely more Charlie Bell than Chris Duhon.

What's worse is that Jonathan Givony was one of the first to break the news, and he didn't tell me. I'm going to have to kick him squa in the nuts.

I'm surprised they'd bother with the team option as well. I certainly hope there is no buyout attached to it and that it's a pure team option for the league minimum.

However, as long as there is no buyout then why not? If he impresses you get him for the minimum, if not, then you're not losing anything.

This has more to do with next year over this IMO.

I never liked DeMarcus Nelson much. Mainly because he played for Duke, and like the Yankees, I consider them the evil empire. Love Duhon though and Grant Hill is such a great guy so I can't really despise him either.

My question is: How did such a softy like Luol Deng ever play for Coach K??

Could he be a cheap back up for next year? As long as there no buyout either it's a smart move. We don't need him for this season and isn't it too late for him to play for the playoffs?

This has to be a move for next year. We will be losing Roberson,Hunter and possibly one of Gordon and Kirk so he might be a cheap bench guy

Nelson could be an audition for next year as a 4th or 5th guard type. I thought Roberson has an option for next year as well. Back to Nelson he is the epitome of a good bench player. High energy guy who is excellent defensively, can play in up tempo style play running the court. He is not a great shooter either from 3 point land or mid range, but he does attack the rim. With his athleticism and energy I can see him being very good guy to have in practice pushing your starters. One other thing he is not tall at 6'3 in shoes but he has a 6'10 wingspan which allows him to play bigger. If he impresses he certainly could stick for next year. Oh and he is cheap so JR will love that.

It's very clear to me why they did this. Paxson wants to resign Gordon. He will trade Hinrich, hopefully for something more than cap space now with his amazing play of late. But he needs insurance in case Gordon STILL walks. He now has that insurance in Salmons and this guy.

Anyone disagree?

That's my read as well. Although it's disappointing that we're too cheap of a franchise to keep both Gordon and Hinrich, because right now, our guard play is rock solid.

Totally.

Not.

I think this signing gives us another Combo guard in case Gordon/Hinrich/Rose misses any time. But for the next year, it's just as an insurance like you said.
