First time poster. I'm not sure if this idea has been posted, so here goes. What if the Bears decided to tweak their offensive line by moving Bushrod in at right tackle and Long back to guard? Or maybe this kind of change wouldn't be ideal because Bushrod hasn't played right tackle before? Or is it too late in the season to try an experiment like this? Thoughts...

I do not know if he played there before or not. What I do know is that Long was a great guard and now is playing tackle which he is a little better then average at. I move him back in a heart beat, unless the Bears want to use this season to train him at tackle and make that his new home

Why? Bushrkd is a career LT and not a good one. Hopefully Grasu gets healthy and Oline gets better.

you don't just swap from the left side to the right side that easily

Bushrod has a severe back problem that is hampering his ability. It's a constant state of pain that likely marks the beginning of the end for him. Once an OL can't bend or get leverage because of back pain it's only a matter of time.

I was under the impression that he's healthy enough to play. That's too bad if he can't contribute going forward. Thanks for the update on his health.

Healthy enough to play, yes, not healthy enough to be effective. His back problem is chronic as it was to start the season. If they need him to play because Leno is hurt he will, but it's Leno's job to lose.

Long had a bad game, but I still think he's your future at tackle (left or right). I think if anything this season will give the coaching staff a good measuring stick to see if he can be a probowler there (like he is at guard) then make a long term decision going into next year.

RE: Bushrod - He's done. Any time an older OL starts having reoccuring back problems it's time to take them to pasture. When you think he's essentially a backup with his cap number is $8.7M and you can free up $4.3M by cutting him the writing is on the wall.

I would be more interested in seeing if Bushrod can just slide into Left Guard(in that if Slausen is still at center)

Leno
Slauson
Grasu
Omaneh
Long

That is your best group.

I agree with BFF, Bushrod is done physically and is an emergency option only.

More money to free up when the Bears cut Bushrod. I finally see hope in the future of the Bears. Last year made me lose hope. The defense is young and growing instead of the decline of the last two years. If Pace can hit a homer like he did in FA and draft after this year, man contention can actually be next year.

i dont know about bushrod, but moving a player from a position in which he was dominating was fucking stupid IMO.

No one really knows dick around here about Bushrod's latest physical condition so any opinions on it are useless. He was active but did not play this Sunday thats all anyone really knows.

If Bushrod is truly healthy he should be better at LG than Omanheh. I would be reluctant this next game to bring back Grasu against the Rams front line. The Rams are a very physical team and Grasu weakness is his strength along with recovering from an injury. Slauson is doing a good job at center and given that its a road game Slauson was probably going to have to help Grasu with some line calls so why not just give Grasu another weak to get better and keep Slauson at center one more week. Also Bushrod is a big guy and has left side footwork down so thats why I like him at LG this week.

For this next game i would probably go with Leno, Bushrod, Slauson, Omanheh, Long left to right.

If Bushrod is healthy enough to play I agree if might not be a bad idea to play him at RT. Long is our best lineman, but he is very average at Tackle. Tackles move from LT to RT often, John Tait did it successfully here in Chicago.

No Kyle is not very average at tackle. Yes he gave a sack this week but that does not tell the whole story. He has had some very good games at RT but he has also had some bad plays. But that is too be expected to a degree because he started the season playing RT for the first time in the NFL. He is way too talented to be put at RG anymore.
