So when you said this: "I'm not sure outside of the Dolphins, though, that may people think of another team other than the 85 Bears though." you were completely wrong? (again)
It's interesting that you really haven't posted on the Cubs forum since Rory Sparrow was banned and magically today you show up here.

That's not true in the least bit.

Uh, that 2005 Sox team was a machine. They were the most dominant team in the league up until August (lost 8 games). They still ended up with 99 wins that year, and went 11-1 in the playoffs (including a sweep of the World Series).

It may not have been significant to you being a Cubs fan, but there was nothing "lucky" about that team at all.

Then again, it's better to be lucky than sucky. :bowrofl::cubspalm:

I think the "lucky" aspect comes with the fact that they were not able to create a consistent contender out of that. In their best 7 year stretch that included that 05' season, we saw only 3 90 win teams. Don't get me wrong, that's not bad, but when you think that those took place 7 years apart outside of 05', you get kind of a one-hit wonder team.

That team was fantastic and dominant, but I think management could've done a better job loading up the farm system a bit more to create a real dominant team of the 00s. I don't consider them a dominant team throughout the 00s.

Certainly that 05' team was not lucky. The fact that the stars aligned was not an accident. 99 wins is no joke no matter what. But at the end of the day, the 00s were not dominated by the Sox, whereas the next 8-10 years could be dominated by the Cubs.

This makes absolutely zero sense. Just because they weren't a dynasty doesn't mean they were lucky.

For the record, they won 90 games the following year. When was the last time you guys had back-to-back 90+ win seasons? Uh, yeah... crickets.

Why can't you people simply accept that the Sox were the best team in the MLB that year and let it rest?

LOL, they won the World Series, so no shit they were the best team that year. When all goes wrong is Sox fans claiming they were some transcendent, once in a generation, top 5 of all time team, when it's pretty obvious they caught lightning in a bottle.

If a poster named 8949ers showed up, would he make a better post than this one?

Doesn't matter who posted it...it is correct. This thread at one point was about the Cubs infield. Since then it's been shanghaied into some misguided argument about the 2005 White Sox that virtually no one gives a flying **** about anymore. Just saw a nationally televised ESPN 2 hour special on the 85 Bears...think anyone will ever put something like that together for that 2005 Sox team? Hell, the only thing I can think of is some cheesy piece that Comcast showed locally....the 69 Cubs who never won
a damn thing gets more notoriety.

SilenceS should close this thread and put it out of it's misery.

While his post is true and your post is mostly good (thumbs down to closing threads just because they don't go where you want them to go), I thought my post was so blatantly obvious as not being serious that I chose not to use green text or an emoticon. ;)

Uh, I beleive I was addressing Cubs fans who keep saying '05 CHampionship was luck.

Does that describe you? No? Then move along.

There's a difference between "luck" and "sustainable success". The 05 team won the games it played and won the WS; absolutely no one is disputing this and saying that the games the Sox played that year were lucky or that. The point people made was that the White Sox clearly didn't build a sustainable model for success as judged by the fact that team won the WS, three years later they made the playoffs, one a single game, and have yet to be back to the playoffs.

Au contraire.....thumbs up to closing directionless threads or ones that have lost their way. It's why they have a name, in this case BUSTER OLNEY RANKS CUBS INFIELD AS THE BEST IN BASEBALL. A good portion of this thread belongs in another forum.

Oh and BTW...I did miss what you were doing there with 85Bears.

It's a "discussion" forum. The comments regarding Buster Olney and our fantastic IF ended long ago. The discussion changed.

LOL...changed enough that the validity of the 2005 White Sox is being discussed in the Cub Forum? Gotta draw a line somewhere.

We said outside of that year they sucked and should have won more. If you can't engage the emo White Sux fans around here enough to hit themselves in the balls, what else can a Cubs fan do?
