I hope this is true. There's becoming less and less of a need for him.

They can take nwfisch for their bench, it will be better than the Miami Heat bench.

i love Byrd to death... plays hard as hell & is old-school. however, he's 35 & itd fit Theo's scheme of getting younger prospects to patch of Hendry's **** ups when it comes to our farm system.

I think we all agree that Byrd should be moved. I think the only question is when would we get the most for Byrd. I think it is less likely to be now as it would be closer to the deadline. I don't think we will ever know for certain the answer to that question, but I trust the guys making that call.

Maybe the Cubs get desperate to dump him. That is the only way I see a deal happening soon. More than likely Theo and Jed will play it close to the vest.

This doesn't seem to work in terms of the service clock. Then again the Cubs don't have to tighten their pursestrings really, so they could just say "whatever" and call up Brett Jackson. I am more interested in the ramifications with BJax or whoever the replacement CF is than I am in what we get back for Byrd. He's basically spent now, methinks, so what we get back isn't going to be much more than mediocrity.

I think the Cubs could get the extra year of free agency within a week or so, but it would virtually guarantee BJax super 2 status unless they waited until May. Yeah the Hawks aren't getting anything for Byrd unless he heats up quick, but it seems like getting someone to take his salary is the best they can hope for at this point.

Hockey on the brain

I doubt the Cubs care so much about Super Two, that extra year is a big deal though. The salary isn't that big of a deal either in the grand scheme of things, I think they're waiting for max return.
