They take this shit seriously with those involved in sports not betting on it and have for a century.

Did you know that ESPN employees can not even participate in things like the March Madness tournament?

Yet they have a daily show devoted to betting on games that day another segment devoted to bad beats and most tout the plays they've made.

I'd assume its for guys announcing games but even then....who cares....they aren't directly involved but nfl announces can be privy to inside info.

That is a bit bullshit. NFL goes out of its way to encourage gambling and fantasy but suspend a guy for betting 1500 while no longer playing.
Yup. It’s going to be a problem in US pro sports. There will be gambling commencing in practically every pro stadium, but NO athletes can gamble on their sport, ever. Riiiiiiiiight. It’s gonna happen.

That’s why they need to keep the bets flowing from the regular person, and so they have to immediately squash any potential and perceived doubts that any of their games could be fixed.

They made it clear that Ridley had no inside knowledge and no coaches were influenced, but came down with the suspension anyway to publicly instill confidence in the integrity of the betting system.

Just for his incredible stupidity, he should be suspended for life.

Lmao. I totally read this wrong the first go around. Thought he was betting he didn’t have a gambling problem. Haha
LOL right? "I bet you $1,500 I don't have a gambling problem. Let's go. You taking this action?" HA.

What a dumb move. It's hypocritical of the league to pretend to be offended. He was away from the game. I doubt he was betting a measly $1500 and then calling up a player and saying "Throw the game." Come on. But it's also really stupid of him. He's done now, probably. $1,500 cost him $12M. Hope he gets help.

CCS Article --->

He should have just beat his kids or hit a woman, then he'd be back in six weeks or so.

Way to go, NFL.

He didn't retire, he just quit on his team. He still had an NFL contract, did he not? He signed said contract, and EVERY NFL contract states that players will NOT bet on games.

How can anyone be opposed to this? Dumbass gambled on the sport he plays. There isn't the most clueless CCS member that didn't know this taboo. Imagine how many times teams go over this from college age up through the pros.

Does the contract say don't beat your wife?

It's pretty stupid, but I have a feeling calvin ridley was done playing in the nfl anyways.

You'll see him back in 2023-2024 looking for a desperate cash grab before he fades out again. Mental Health is real, but a guy who can give up football(something thats been his life for nearly 2 decades) cold turkey, probably doesnt care too much about it anymore.

I find if kind of silly that the NFL bans Ridley for likely just a season for gambling on his team to win when he wasn't even playing, but MLB banned Pete Rose for life as had Cooperstown for doing the same thing.

It's been long enough. Lift the bans and give Pete his due.

Which is still bullshit if he wasnt even betting on the Falcons. How the hell would he have inside knowledge.
