This is like all the stuff we see in little league baseball games. Parents take this stuff way too seriously. Most coaches at this level are also parents of someone on the team. The kids always get caught in the middle of this crap.

I'm confused. Are you saying he did or didn't trip the kid?

I think TJD is saying that the Coach is saying that he tripped (accidently). Based on hoping he never coaches again, believes it's a load of rubbish. I concur.

People are just so classless. In fact, I wanted to puke when Shane Doan won that leadership award after the pathetic display he put on. What a joke.

Doesnt surprise me in the least...

I was a soccer ref for a long time as a teenager early 20's from the tiniest of the age groups to college games. I made mistakes, pissed off crowds, etc. It happens.

I had one time where a fan/coach/spectator ran at me on the field with a serious intent to get physical where I actually felt like I may need to defend myself...

It was a parent in a 7 and under (read as ages 5 - 7) game on a Saturday afternoon.

If any of you parents ever had your kid in youth neighborhood soccer, you will know that under 7 games are like this: ball goes here? 20 kids run to it. Ball goes there? 20 kids run after it. Goalies are usually in nap time. You blow a whistle every once in awhile when a kid falls down so that you look like you are earning your babysitting money. Kid kicks it back into play, 20 kids go that way.

And it was in a game like this where a parent decided to run at me from the sideline.

Tell me you booted his ass from the game. I wouldn't even think twice.

My little league experience has been that often parents coach so that their "special child" gets what they want... ie to be the short-stop, pitcher, catcher, or fill in the position and never gets subbed or sat on the bench for bad behavior. Sad, but true.

Well, the best part of it was I am not a small guy and wasnt then either. I heard him screaming and the game was nearing end anyway so I ignored. Then his kid fell, I did not give a babysit whistle and he lost it and charged the field. By the time he got to me, he had changed his mind.

But yes, he was booted and banned from the rec center/fields at that location.

I can't watch it but anyone tripping a kid after a game is comeplete jackassery. He is supposed to set the example of professionalism for the younger generation. Man what a great role model.

It was in BC so these same people are probably Canucks fans and are perfectly OK with shady shenanigans.

Sorry Bri, in the interview with the coach, he said he slipped/tripped and that's what caused him to collide with the skater.

People think the parent's are bad, but I know the coaches are just as bad. In a youth league I coach in, there is a rule about balanced ice time. It means the obvious; everyone plays a regular shift and no power play lines. You can't switch lines on the go or sit a kid. Everyone plays.

One game in particular, in the playoff round robin portion of a tournament, an undefeated team played the exact same 7-8 kids for the final 8 minutes (We were up 2-0 and were 4th in the group of 4 in this division). The worst part was this team made no effort to hide what they were doing. How you ask? Because before every playoff game, each team has to submit a lineup card to the other team showing which skater will be playing with who and these lines have to stay the ENTIRE GAME. Needless to say, I had a parent keep an eye out for it and sure enough they bailed on their lines with 8 minutes left in the game. This meant about 6 kids didn't play the final 8 minutes of the game and sat and watched on the bench.

It's quite unfortunate, the good thing is someone was smart enough to videotape the game and got the exchange on film. The proof is there and this guy is fucked.

I was told once by a parent that my coaching was preventing his son from making the pro's because I let everyone on the team play a fair amount of innings and multiple positions. This was when I coached instructional little league...you know kids that can barely swing a real bat.

Every kid should get to play. How are they suppose to learn and improve if they don't have the opportunity to play? Making them sit on the bench isn't going to boost their confidence or self esteem. Plus they pay their fees too which entitles them to participate.

The fucked up thing about that is, in this country, people have no idea how hard it is to actually make major league baseball. A kid I played with in Joliet, who honestly was the best baseball player I ever played with whose dad was the same way. Pushing the kid terribly hard because he had a "shot" at the majors, but got injured, and wanted to live vicariously through his son.

There are SO many players, and minor league players, no matter the level make absolute SHIT.

This is the kid I played with, he basically ruined his life by going for the dream way too long.

http://www.thebaseba...?P=Brandon-Sing

The poor motherfucker wallowed in the minors until he finally realized at 30, his best years were behind him (probably because his stupid ass dad kept pushing him). His one stint in triple A he only put up a .177 batting avg. He has been playing well in the unaffiliated independent leagues, but I imagine, that is just full of talent that wasnt good enough for the majors like him.

and for anyone that doesnt know here is a pay scale for the minors( per month):

Level 1st Year 2nd Year 3rd Year Rookie $1150 $1200 $1250 Short Season A $1150 $1200 $1250 Low A $1300 $1350 $1400 High A $1500 $1550 $1600 Double A $1700 $1800 $1900 Triple A $2150 $2400 $2700

I got out of college making more than veteran triple A players, alot more actually because im just counting take home pay for myself. This shit gets taxed for them.
