Damn, where will @Omeletpants go to place a hand written note on a car to try and trick a bunch of strangers that he bought a car that he actually couldn't afford? Why Car Dealerships Will be Extinct by 2025
Car dealerships don't fit in an automated future and studies show that they don't really fit these days, either. With more cars offering car subscription services and buyers researching everything before they buy, car dealerships will soon be a relic of the past.edgy.app
Ordering cars online is the future.
After three decades in all aspects of the car sales,I can attest to the impact of inter-net sales but that is and will remain entirely in the pre-driven segment........Carvana and Vroom will NEVER sell new cars......just as Carmax hasn't.
The manufacturer needs to control the retail sales through their dealer networks for a myriad of reasons.....
The factory needs to know how many units of any model are sitting in dealer inventory to schedule production and incentives. The manufacturer needs trained sales people to deliver a new car. The delivery process has nothing to do with rolling it off a flatbed,it's a process that familiarizes the customer with the vehicle they just bought as far as features(some extremely high tech),the dealership's service department and the vehicle's service schedule.
Follow up after the sale is also a manufacturer and dealership necessity to increase or maintain CSI which is of utmost importance nowadays.
Service has also been mentioned and the training, diagnostic equipment and costly parts inventories required are massive and necessary cost outlays with profits to match the outlay.
The majority of buyers also have trades to deal with, many with payoffs still due........see how well that'll work with a vending machine.
Real men and negotiators love tangling with car salesmen. Snowflakes and pansies run from the challenge. Love your dress, SheilaI hate dealing with car salesmen...(no offense).. but there is zero chance I am buying a car sight unseen without it being a world class deal or brand spanking new warrantied to the hilt.

Yeah man, totally love being lied to and putting up with low-class cheap sales tactics. Nothing like "tangling" with a guy who just repeats "What monthly payment do you want?" with no regard for what I'm trying to say.Real men and negotiators love tangling with car salesmen. Sounds like you dont know how to talk to those guys and do the dance imo.Yeah man, totally love being lied to and putting up with low-class cheap sales tactics. Nothing like "tangling" with a guy who just repeats "What monthly payment do you want?" with no regard for what I'm trying to say.
Dealerships may change - but the concept will never "go away". The author of that article is a tech writer with no understanding of the auto industry - she assumes you can have a car delivered just like a new TV from amazon. I work in commercial lines - and one of the hardest risks that gets to my desk is what we call "freight forwarding" around autos - IE when you have a third party logistics company(3PL) either drive or flatbed a vehicle that someone else owns. Large auto claims around 3PLs start in the 10s of millions of dollars and occasionally end up in 9 figures - because of the cost of risk involved you need localized "Depots" (aka dealerships) to conveniently ship and store large numbers of vehicles. You are never going to have a situation in the US where there is factory to consumer direct shipping of vehicles because 17 million dice rolls in residential areas to potentially lose 10-400 million dollars isn't sustainable economically. It is sustainable to have 8 cars on a car carrier going to a convenient location based on or near major roadways - AKA dealerships. After three decades in all aspects of the car sales,I can attest to the impact of inter-net sales but that is and will remain entirely in the pre-driven segment........Carvana and Vroom will NEVER sell new cars......just as Carmax hasn't.

If you are under the illusion that you are pulling a fast one on a car dealership then you probably do not understand the contract that you signed. Its like claiming you beat the house at the keno machines.Sounds like you dont know how to talk to those guys and do the dance imo.
