It's a good attitude to have, especially trying to look good to Hawks fans, but my judgment about his play will directly correlate to exactly how many dumb ass penalties he takes. If he doesn't take many, I will like him. If he does, two thumbs down.

CHICAGO - Daniel Carcillo is ready to stir it up in Chicago.
The Blackhawks signed Carcillo, one of the NHL's best-known agitators, to a one-year US$775,000 free-agent contract July 1. The 26-year-old forward was introduced to media Monday, along with fellow free-agent acquisition Andrew Brunette.

After winning the Stanley Cup in 2010, the Blackhawks often lacked assertiveness and fire last season, limping into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

"I think the team lost some of their grit," said Carcillo, who will miss the first two games this season after confronting officials during the playoffs with the Philadelphia Flyers.

"The way I play, it's tough to stay out of the principal's office. I'm going to miss a few games every year," he said. "But I know what to do and what not to do. I know when to fight and I know when not to fight. I can sense when guys need a pick-me-up with a hit or to turn the energy in a game."
Carcillo, who played for Philadelphia in the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals against Chicago, already is considering tactics for Vancouver, the Blackhawks' most bitter rival. The Canucks eliminated Chicago in a seven-game opening-round playoff series last April.

"I watched that series," Carcillo said. "I'm actually pretty excited to play them because there are a few guys who played a little bit outside of their shoes. I think I can keep most of those guys in check when we play them this year."
Carcillo, Jamal Mayers and Steve Montador—a solid defenceman—all are expected to add toughness to keep opponents off-balance.
And Brunette will provide a stable veteran presence for a young Chicago team.

The 37-year-old is expected to play on one of the Blackhawks' top two lines with stars such as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa. He said he'll be able to mesh with the Blackhawks' top offensive producers even though he's not the league's fastest skater.

"You don't have to have the best speed to be able to get in place to score," Brunette said. "The one good thing for me is it's tough to lose a step as you get older if you never really had it."

The move also has reunited him with Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville
Brunette had 18 goals and 26 assists with Minnesota last season but enjoyed his most productive offensive run under Quenneville in Colorado from 2005 to 2008.

"It will be a nice change to be back with Joel," said Brunette, who signed a two-year deal that pays $2 million annually. "I had some of the best years of my career in Colorado."

I think the reason I like the Carcillo signing so much is because how much I hated seeing him on the ice against the Hawks. I just kept saying to myself..."look at this asshole out there". Now the dickwads in Detroit, San Jose and MOST of all Vancouver can be saying those words. :smug:

That means he is doing his job right. That is his game, and can't wait to see him throw it right back into Vancouver's faces.

I really never hated seeing him on the ice.

I swear every time I saw him on the ice, I expected him to take a Special person penalty and I hoped the Hawks wouldn't take a matching minor in retaliation.

No offense, but Detroit could probably give two shits about Carcillo.

None taken. Just wondering about this love affair with the Wings...they are showing some age. 10 players in their 30s and one checking in at 41...an important one, Lidstrom. Ive heard people actually saying the Hawks are getting old after adding these veterans in the off season....Hawks have 5 players in their 30s. I see the arrow pointing down for the Wings...a playoff team? Probably, they have a good coach. A Cup contender.....I dont think so.

IMOP, the Hawks are still trending up.

As they maybe on the wrong side of their careers, they are still a better team right now than the hawks. the hawks will eventually pass them due to regression and age, but it wont be this season.

on a side note*** I love how this post is about the age of the wings, and some users thank this post but yet age doesnt mean anything when it comes to brunette. weird how that works.

I respect them as a franchise and what they have accomplished.

It seems a bit more calm now.

I know I hate everything about vancouver. that is probably are number 1 rival, and 5 years ago, I never would have guessed that would happen.

Its a numbers thing. When you only dress 20 and when 10 are in their 30s, thats a significantly higher number than 5. All Im saying is that time catches up with everyone especially in a fast paced, physical game like hockey. I think it will take its toll on the Wings this year.

As for Brunette, lets just say he'd fit in well with the Wings.

I dont think age really affects them. They have a very solid core of guys who played with each other. They know their line mates, and what they are thinking. Those guys may be in their 30's but they get the job done.
