I want Z now.

I almost don't think the Cubs would trade Z to the White Sox if only because the White Sox may not have the farmhands they'd want back. Z's contract is a sunk cost and he's almost out of his prime so he wouldn't bring much back anyway. I think the Cubs look towards the Yankees and Red Sox to try to mine some of their farmhands instead.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Z as a White Sox.

I'm all for this. Let's trade him and get some good prospects.

like the convo i had with waldo, you will get prospects but no team will get fleeced by hendry for a guy whos stock is down and has the rep he does. I see posts that it would take 7 prospects and us paying for the whole salary and i just laugh at the complete stupidity.

dont hate so much on the sox.

zambrano has made it clear in the past that he grew up a sox fan and wanted to play for the sox. he is also great friends with ozzie guillen....as he was involved in the famous 1 on 1 dinner after he erupted on d lee.

Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible

Wow: Carlos Zambrano Really Did Have Dinner With Ozzie Guillen Last Night | Bleacher Nation | Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Commentary

Wasn't at all actually.

I was more getting at a scenario if he had to choose where to go.. Honestly don't think the Sox would be first on his list.. not being a hater. Just being realistic.. Yanks, BoSox would be massively a higher priority if he wants to get a ring.

How can there be interest in trading a good pitcher and a fan favorite at a time where the fans are starting to not show up and we're lacking at starting pitching? Unless we got a hell of a deal, no thanks.

I don't think I'd call Z a 'fan favorite'...I think the fan base is pretty split on him. But if we find a team that's willing to take the majority of his salary, we jump at it.

z is far from a fan favorite imo. i think he's outstayed his welcome in Chicago to most people. his temper and his overall demeanor really turned off a lot of people.

here is a fact:

IF someone trades for him, that team will not be taking on his entire salary.

here is another fact:

If the Cubs trade him and don't either get good players back or be rid of his entire salary, it will be a bad trade for the Cubs.

Well it does need to be said because it appears like some people feel like the Cubs would be better off paying most of his salary and getting nothing back to just be rid of him like Carlos Silva.

Cubs shouldnt just get rid of him for nothing. If teams dont want to have his contract or give anything just ride him out for 1 more year.

i don't think it really matters what the Cubs get back in a trade for z. they won't get a good deal. hendry will make sure of that. :lmao:

Yanks Prefer Left-Handers And Rentals
By Steve Adams [June 18 at 2:23pm CST]
George A. King III of the New York Post lists both Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster as two pitchers of potential interest to the Yankees (which we also heard yesterday), but soon after notes that the Yankees would prefer to add a left-handed starter, and that they also prefer players who are only signed through 2011.

King names Wandy Rodriguez as the best available southpaw starter, though he's anything but a rental; his contract is guaranteed through 2013 with an option for 2014. Dempster better fits the criteria of a rental player; he has a $14MM player option for 2012, but after a disastrous start owns a 3.21 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 56 innings of work since May 1. If he continues to pitch that well through season's end, he can likely find more money on the free agent market. Dempster also has full no-trade protection, making him a difficult target.

Left-handed starters whose contracts expire following the 2011 season include Paul Maholm, Bruce Chen, Jeff Francis, and Zach Duke. Of the four, only Maholm is currently pitching well enough to be considered an upgrade. Mark Buehrle is also a free agent following 2011, but a clause in his contract states that he will receive an extra year at $15MM if he's traded this season.

Maholm earns just $5.75MM this year and has a $750K buyout on his $9.75MM option for 2012. To date, he's compiled a strong 3.12 ERA that's supported fairly well by his 3.53 FIP and 3.89 xFIP. Chen has been solid in 42 2/3 innings for the Royals, but is currently rehabbing from a lat muscle injury. Those names, of course, are pure speculation based on the Yanks' stated desires.

New York is currently sixth in the American League in starters' ERA with a mark of 3.89, but that's been largely supported by surprising performances from Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon, who was recently put on the 15-day disabled list. As King points out, the club expects Phil Hughes to return at some point as well. He's set for a rehab start tomorrow

Thought this kind of fit this topic

Yea trades really haven't been the downfall of Jim Hendry. I mean the deal for Juan Pierre was terrible, but Hendry's main problem as a GM has been bad free agent signings. The Cubs do have a history of waiting for guys to be at their lowest value before trading them (Corey Patterson, Sammy Sosa, Michael Barrett, Felix Pie, Rich Hill, etc., etc.), but generally speaking the Cubs do fairly well when they make trades under Hendry.

I still think if they would have resigned Pierre that trade wouldnt look bad. It hurt cause he here only 1 year.... Guys like Patterson, Pie, Hill are reasons im not fan of rebuilding. It takes alot of luck in rebuilding.

Patterson wouldn't have looked half bad in a Cub uniform this year.

Reynel Pinto, Sergio Mitre, and Ricky Nolasco for Juan Pierre was a bad trade and I am glad they didn't compound the mistake by resigning Pierre. Having Nolasco around the past few years would have been really useful.

Nolasco about only guy who hurt in that deal. Pinto had ok season, and Mitre is a LR that jumps around the league. I thought LAD overpaid Pierre big time and thats why they let him go.
