There seems to be a love affair for a ton of Bears fans. I see the stats, I saw some of his games, but I am not sold on him. I don’t know why, it just seems there is a middle of the pack Cutler feel here. His game is diff from Cutler, but I feel like you are stuck in mediocrity with him as well, won’t get over the behemoth that is GB or other NFC teams. Historically, Raiders D sucks, but they seem to fall off the map towards the second half of the year and homie isn’t taking the next step to get them over the hump, outside of solid performances vis Chiefs (who Bucs just dismantled).

Why are Bears fans clamoring for him?
Slim pickings out there but to me Wentz even has a higher ceiling and for Carr’s price tag I would rather trade up in draft or push the chips towards Watson (gotta play the long game here).

Anyone saying what has Watson done vs Carr with bad defenses. Stfu, Texans were absolutely dreadful. Raiders are serviceable and not disfunctional.

Watch we get Minshew

I’ll hold out with a shitty quarterback for 2021, top 5 pick 2022, and pace/Nagy fired. Trading for anything is setting this team back even more.
Bears will not have a top 5 pick. That is just silly thinking.

Is there a love affair? I havent paid too much attention to the talk around him the past couple weeks but in the past most posters said they wouldn't want him.

I guess all over Twitter especially. Everyone seems to want Carr out of the available (potential) pool. I just don’t see why. Not a transcendent talent. Wentz was at least in MVP conversations

Pace and Nagy will not do that (sitting back) because it will get them fired....Soooo, they are going to explore any and all options, including using draft picks they may never see..

So far we have been in the news for looking at Watson, Wentz and Carr. I'm Sure if they get desperate before the draft they may entertain the idea of Tyrod Taylor or Darnold or a number of other QBs that might be available in one fashion or another.

What they will not do is throw a year to get a high draft pick, because they are on the hot seat....

When we are talking about Carr/Wentz, it comes down to cost for me. Like the OP mentioned, I'm not sure either guy puts the Bears over the hump, but they are likely better than anything the Bears can reasonably draft. Carr scares me because most anticipate he will require multiple firsts. I'm a hard pass on that.

Multiple firsts for either guy would be a complete disaster.

Doesn’t he struggle in cold weather? Seems counterproductive to bring him to Chicago.

As for the love affair, not sure I’ve ever noticed that.

Carr has been in beginning season MVP talk as well, just didn't finish in it - I forget which season but it was just a few seasons ago.

“Buying time in the pocket and working through progressions is pivotal for any NFL quarterback, and unfortunately for Raiders fans, it’s also something Carr has struggled with over the past few years. Since the 2018 season kicked off, his 34.5 passing grade on his second read is the second-lowest grade in the NFL, and his four turnover-worthy passes on such throws are the second most.”

I want Carr, but I wouldnt call it a love affair. He is a solid QB that has put up good numbers the last 3 years..
Is he better then Watson? No i would say that he isnt. But he would cost way less and that is a pretty big advantage. Not to mention that he is way better then Mitch. We all just watched what happens when you do not protect your QB. Mahomes is one of the best.. and with a crappy OL he played like complete garbage. Our OL when healthy is marginal at best. We need to address this as well and thats not possible if we give up the farm for Watson so other options need to be looked at

I would be ok with Carr for this years 1st and then a swap of 2022 2nd round pick for Raiders 3rd. That’s as high as I go if they want to keep him fine. Multiple 1sts is only for Watson, or a rookie, nobody else.

I'll qualify this with the statement that I don't think I could do the job of an NFL evaluator, so take this for what it is.

What I've seen of Carr is that he seems to miss a lot of pre-snap reads. To me, that is a major red flag for a QB, especially a veteran one, especially one who could require a #1 or #2 rd pick to get. Trading anything over a conditional third/fourth round pick is not worth it. I think he'll generate more frustration than wins.

Yes this is the only concern I have about Carr. I think I saw someone tweet he’s only won 3 games in his career in cold weather

I would have been more excited for Carr last year when you thought the defense might have one more year of relevancy left. He seems to have a higher floor than somebody like Wentz, but maybe a bit limited by his lower ceiling. I wouldn't hate it, but personally, I'm more firmly on the Zach Wilson/Trey Lance boat with the options available to us right now.

Most Bears fans want an upgrade at quarterback. That seems pretty rational, based on what we've been seeing.

Would Carr be an upgrade? Probably. Is he the best out there? Probably not, but then, it all depends who is truly "out there", as in available. Truly available.

I seems unlikely that either Pace or Nagy have a long enough leash to start over with a rookie QB, so trading for a vet is probably the best option. Stafford is gone, Watson may end up back in Houston after all, and the Eagles seem to want more for Wentz than he may be worth. So names like Carr and Minshew are being bandies about, at least by fans.

Not unexpected or particularly remarkable.

He does and i've posted about this at least 4 times in different threads.
Hes also not mobile but has had the luxury of a great offensive line for a few years now. So in Chicago he'd be playing in the cold with mediocre blocking. Sounds like a recipe for success
