Off topic section and no one talking about cars?

Tell us what you are into. And no, don't do the typical shit on this boards where by the fifth post it turns into some lame dick fest with stupid unfunny GIFS.

Are you into small nimble cars for track? Are you into big American V8 muscle cars for straight line? Are you into those big ass diesel pick ups?

I can appreciate any of them. For me though, my love of cars is largely centered around insanely expensive beautiful performance shit I'd never be able to afford - but I can dream. Current things like the Pagani Zonda Cinque or the Koenigsegg Agera R. Or rare and unique Italian works of art like the '67 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale in my avatar (only 17 made) or the Lamborghini Miura S or the Ferrari 245 Dino GTS.

I've been fortunate enough to own some fun cars and couldn't imagine life without the ability to take a small, lightweight agile car around country road twisties or a nice track day. Also fortunate enough to have made friends with some 'car guys' who have incredible cars and are nice enough to let me pilot them for a bit.

And there is no debate. Proper cars require 3 pedals. Period. End of story.

I love old cars of any sort...Muscle, 50's retro, even as far back as the 20's..If were financially able, I'd give Leno a run for his money

Leno's collection is regarded as one of the best on the planet. Funny though, he just doesn't do Ferraris like every other collector. He does have every Lambo under the sun including the so under appreciated 300GT and Jalpa.

If you spend time on car forums, you'll meet a lot of guys from Southern California. They are all about 'the Snake' and the Mulholland Canyons. TONS of cars, bikes, etc there every weekend. Spend an hour sitting there and you'll see every manner of incredible car under the sun. Leno is out there almost every weekend in crazy shit - early 1900's steam cars, etc. Some Lotus friend of mine were on a cruise and ran into him when he was breaking in his brand new McLaren P1. If you Youtube, tons of footage of him cruising that car and others around. Said he's a phenomenally nice guy and can and will just talk cars all day long. Wears that same 'uniform' - jeans with denim shirt with sleeves rolled up - every day, all day. Crazy.

I like them all. From American muscle to exotic imports. The next car I buy will likely be a Cadillac CTS-V as my daily driver. I have a lot of dream cars, but one of them is a 60's Jaguar E-Type:

I have been around some form of racing nearly my entire life between my Dad and older brother. I have an appreciation for anything that goes.

I've currently got a few daily driver Hondas, a drag car (LSx/turbo Camaro), a road race car (Porsche 911), and a few others I just cant bring myself to get rid of....and another Ive been building for a few years.

Im actually about to move into a bigger shop that has a few lifts because I'm running out of room.

My wife is awesome.

Gimme dat!

Deusenbergs are some really special cars...There is a registry for them with all the previous owners etc...

Too rare and expensive to drive though, but they sure are beautiful

My nephew has a 69 Chevelle with some ungodly big block that turns like 900HP...I went to the drag strip once with him...It pulls the front wheels

e Type = beautiful, but.... the fixed head coupe is much prettier than the drop top. Every see one with the bonnet opened? It looks as though the whole front of the car is going to scrape the pavement! Eek.

Even Enzo Ferrari himself called the eType the most beautiful car in the world.

As for the CTSV - yes, fantastic cars. I looked at them when I bought my last car. The windows are very shallow and for whatever reason, gave me a wicked migraine on the test drive. You can chip them and produce ridiculous performance.

Oh, and if you like Jags, let me introduce you to one that many people aren't familiar with - the one off LeMans prototype 1966 XJ13. Looks at the lines on this thing - pure sex. Currently valued well over $20M

FB is right about the hardtop on the Jags...Nicer looking, but a ragtop has its benefits in the warmer climates

Same with mid year Vettes..The hardtops look great but are hot as hell inside

I owned a 74 XJ-12 for a while....too problematic

I had a CTS-V for a bit. Couldn't bring myself to put a cage in it so I got rid of it. I really liked it, though.

My next car will be a Cayman GT2.

You're the guy I have been meaning to ask:

Are aftermarket performance computer chips worth the few hundred to install?. And why don't auto manufacturers simply make them standard equipment on all new vehicles?.

It's a Doozie! Many don't realize that's were that phrase came from!

I'm a huge fan of the 35 Dues SJ - the Ab Jenkins 'Mormon Meteor'

But for me, for pre-war cars, nothing beats the art deco French stuff. Talbot Lago Teardrop (picture 1), Delahaye, Rolls Royce Round Door (pic 2) and the amazing Bugatti Type 57 Atlantique (3 exist and Ralph Lauren has one). Worth about $45M

That's awesome.

What sort of racing do you do?

BTW - is that Tyrion Lannister in a 'Reasonably Priced Car'?

Sadly, I can't track as much as I used to (kids and their events and track days are all day things). I've never done the drag thing and autocross bores the shit out of me as it's just picking up cones on hot asphalt knocked over by Miatas.

What sort of 911 variant? A good friend has a 996 GT3RS - Riveria Blue with the orange accents. Amazing car and sublime handling. As much as I want a stable, my wife only allows me one 'toy' - Lotus Elise SC - best bang for buck sports car on Earth. Also have a 1969 Mini Moke that restored that I'll never part with.

I REALLY want one of these as a dedicated track car:

Cayman are RIDICULOUS under appreciated. I know the 911 guys all give them shit. After a couple of years of track days, I did one of those full on instructor led days. Did most of the runs in their caged Z4, but did the final session in the owners Cayman R. FANTASTIC car (and to me, the best looking car Porsche currently makes).

After years of SUVs, I had a Wrangler Unlimited Sahara for a couple of years. Great car. So fun with the top down in summer, but just too damn loud and windy with the hard top on in the winter. Went back to performance sedans.

Short answer - yes they are, but all cars are not created equal. What car do you have and what do you want to chip? I would look into the respective forums - certainly a bunch of owners who have chipped. The key is the mfg of the chip and what they do with the ECU re-flash. Also, is just the chip sufficient or do you need to consider intake and exhaust, which can get crazy expensive. Also, be careful of what chips can do to throw CELs (MAF sensor issues, etc).

The most important thing to consider - is your car owned or leased? Oftentimes, chips will void/impact a warranty. I have an Audi S4 that I'd LOVE to chip, but it's leased as a part of my corporate arrangement so I effectively have to keep it bone stock.
