**** me for oversharing but I figure it's a good as topic in the Bar as any. We lost our beloved kitty, Burroughs, this month. He was a mutt rescue in New Mexico but had all the hallmarks of some Maine Coon being his progenitor.

him as a baby after breaking his leg trying to jump on a window ledge:

him older when he had recovered and liking my shoes:

burroughs in his prime with a lion cut and on a diet (and the sweater was not my idea):

We miss him a lot but my wife has decided to adopt 2 more kitties to honor his legacy, and I am close to getting over grieving enough to be on board with it.

I just want an honest and civil discussion here about why you people who hate cats, hate cats?

Sorry for your loss mainecoonbro. Glad to hear that #newkittehs are on the way.

To your question, I love cats but my grievances with them are:

1. I'm allergic to most of them
2. When they pee on something they shouldn't, they tend to make a habit of it.
3. Their scratches and bites are pretty nasty if you don't get that shit sterilized pretty quickly.

Sorry about your cat. I love cats. Have fun with the kittens. Our 2 yr old tabby is a big part of our life. Him and Rango are best friends. Have to be careful when his eyes get big and he gets pissed off. ****** has his balls and claws. Let us know when you get the kittens. You and your wife are going to be busy.

I am the same as grimson- no hatred of cats, I just prefer dogs.

Having to lose an old friend is never easy. I recently went through it myself.

My dogs are family and it is crushing to say goodbye.

The 2 bits of advice I can give are- getting another is not replacing or disrespecting the one you lost, it is allowing another to benefit from what you have to give.
Never feel guilty about bringing in a new friend.

Nothing but time is going to make it any less painful. You are going to think of your old buddy and be sad... but then one day you remember them and something silly they did and you will smile. Those good memories that make you happy will start showing up with greater frequency. Never feel bad about how long that takes.

Good for you guys letting another couple fur babies come in and live the good life.

I totally hear you all on dogs. I love dogs and cats equally and grew up in bumfuck egypt with a ton of both, which is why I don't want to keep a dog cooped up without a yard in the city. Once we get a yard, bombs away. Until then, giant cats.

That said, here are Tarzan (my wife found a breeder who gets them sent from Ukraine, hence the cyrillic photo byline):

Sorry for your loss...your retelling was eerily familiar...my wife adopted a stray baby from the father of a former coworker who let a feral mama birth her litter safely in his garage...he was only a few months old when we started dating. Over time, he pretty much became my cat. Quite suddenly on 10/3/2017, we let him go...he was not at the door when I got home for the first time ever...he had a blood clot due to congestive heart failure, and based on a treatment with a 50/50 outcome, and likelihood of more clots in the future, and finally the fact that they would not let me stay in the hospital with him during the 72 hour Warfarin treatment we painfully let him go on his favorite spot, my lap. He was 16. We refused to let his last days possibly be in a strange place with strange people wondering why we abandoned him and took him from home when he was in pain and needed us most. We vowed the pain was too much, and we would never get another animal. Then the big house felt quite empty...a ten pound senior cat had filled the space with a lot of presence and love, it appeared. In November, we adopted two strays that had been saved as part of a litter of 5 from animal control in Kentucky, 3 hours before they were to be euthanized. We felt that saving two more lives would be the best way to honor him. I'd post some photos, but I'm too dumb to figure out how to get them down to size to share here. Good on you for rescuing more cats.

Sorry about your cat friend. That sux.
A friend of mine had a similar looking cat. She was cool af.
He moved to NorCal and ended up getting a job that he was mostly on the road for.
I was gonna fly out and bring kitty back to live here but his roommate's gf gave her away while he was on the road for work.
I did not fly out there to beat the shit out of her but I thought about it.

Oh, man, I'm so sorry for your loss. The compartmentalization is real but then the grief just happens out of nowhere.
