I agree Gasol doesn't make them hugely better, and that's why I said they shouldn't do it. They really need to blow up everything, the team around Bosh is crap. Bargnani is the worst rebounding 7 footer to ever play the game, Hedo makes Deng's contract seem like a bargain, and they have no promising youth. I'd sell what I could for picks, tank it up and hope to land something decent (and no picking useless centers who don't rebound if you luck into the #1 pick!)

Actually been listening to this finally (is reading the thread before listening to the cast considered spoilers?) and it's great to hear a slanging match about something new.

BTW, 100th show, special guest star Kirk Hinrich, make it happen.

As a Toronto Raptors season ticket holder, what scenario would make you more likely to renew your season tickets?

A. Sign and trade for Gasol
B. Tank it up and hope you get lucky with a #1 overall a few years down the road.

As I said before, B would only work in Chicago. It won't sell in Toronto. With option A, I believe the season ticket base erosion would be minimal.

I think that show would be about 30 seconds long, when Kirk hangs up after this exchange:

Fred: "Hey Kirk, thanks for coming on the Bullseye. Why did your shooting suck so badly this year?"

Kirk: "Why are you an a-hole."

Fred: "KC called you the glue. Well, if I'm rubber and you're glue, everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you."

I do agree with this and it is probably what the Raptors would do if available to them. Although from a fan perspective I would rather start over. Having a core of Gasol, Hedo and Bargs guarantees you no title and no good picks.

I guess I'm repeating what Mark said but replacing Bosh with Gasol does not improve their team.

I think it might. They're the worst defensive team in the league, and Gasol is a better defender than Bosh.

I do think the Raptors need to go young and start from scratch though. I don't even think they should really try to keep Bosh, they seem to be stuck in mediocrity right now.

I gotta agree, I don't think it will make them a worse team. Bosh has great stats but Gasol took a team with similar talent and made them a 50 win team. I don't see them falling apart at the seems.

Those Memphis teams had Hubie Brown & Mike Fratello as their coach & they were very good defensively. The Raptors have Triano & the worst group of defenders possibly ever assembled on one team. I just don't see the Raps as a playoff team with Gasol. It's a lateral move that would do nothing but cap them out for years to come.

Gasol is a defensive upgrade so I would say he would help that a bit. I don't see them winning 50 games but I don't think its unreasonable to assume that they would be a 7-8 seed if everyone is healthy next year.

Well I wont call you a ****** like Mark did on this point, but Gasol costs you 17.8 million next year. According to Forbes, Toronto had 133 million in revenue last year. Gasol eats up 13% of that (in reality probably more, because revenue will be down this year). Still sound like a good deal for saving season tickets?

That's a lot of tickets worth of salary. Based on Forbes average ticket price of $58, Gasol has to sell 300,000 tickets to pay his way. I don't think Gasol has that kind of name appeal.

Toronto has already said that they would pay to resign Bosh. Gasol will make the same on a shorter deal and provide similar results. It also won't put them in the LT, so I don't see how they are losing money. You are just looking at raw numbers, Toronto ranked in the top 1/3rd in profits last year, so they aren't hurting for money and aren't in a rush to rebuild with a lot of money and years left on Calderon, Turkaglo and Bargiani deals with not a lot of takers and a hard time getting people to stay or come to Toronto.

The problem w/ the S&T is the player still has the leverage, the team has to work out a deal w/ the he has to go to.

Jsain360,

That is one of the best Avatar pictures I have ever seen. Where did you get it? I should get t-shirts made and sell it to the drone nation.
