They've been going for 3 years on it too. Great show, no reason more people shouldn't be listening.

When's your next show?
Do you take callers?
How interactive is the show?
How long is it (typically)?
What all do you cover?

If I may jump in despite not being directly involved in the discussion, I've been loyal listener for a long, long time - I think I've only missed a few of their early ones. They cover the major stories from most of the big 4 well as college sports (they freely admit their knowledge of hockey is lacking and their self-depreciating humor is a good way to open the door to their limited hockey talk, imho) as well as some random stuff. It is very entertaining. Their show is extremely interactive which is pure awesomeness and if you want to change direction/provide thoughts on a different topic, they are resilient to go with the flow. They take callers as well as partake in conversation with their on-line chat listeners (which works out best for me as the wife hogs the phone when I'm tuned in).

They are on Monday nights at 7 cst. Now that I'm schooling it (gawd I'm too old for this shit) on Monday nights, I'll be MIA until I December or possibly later depending on my schedule next semester.

Thank you, Iago, you are our most loyal listener, and we appreciate it every time you tune into the show. And thanks for bringing up one of the things I forgot about, our style of humor: we openly rip on ourselves almost every show (especially when we talk hockey, as Iago mentioned), sometimes as an excuse for saying something dumb or having a bad show, but mostly to be funny (as well as honest).

And Iago, when hockey season starts up, would it be possible to get emails with your thoughts on the Hawks since you won't be able to listen/participate in the chat to keep us from getting too hockey-tarded? Not anything regular, just whatever may come to your mind that you want to talk about, and if you want to teach us some of the ins and outs of hockey.

Also you'll catch some digs on CCS, some members, etc. Usually it's pretty entertaining.

Well, honestly, it would probably be better if you fired questions off to me rather than relying on me to initiate a discussion considering my plate (also teaching an extra class this year, so I'm w/out a prep which makes work cut more into my personal time). If this is not what you're looking for, I may not be your guy...and no worries if you, Rich, and whoever your Mexican intern is now choose to go a different direction. :D

Honesty - getting into the radio business has always kind of been a goal of mine, as goofy as that may sound. We just recently got ESPN Radio in our town (who knew they wanted a station in po-dunk, KY?) and I've gotten so close to putting in an app for it soooo many times.

If we were to do a podcast of some sort, would you guys check it out? I think I might talk to Zack about a quick 5-10 minute update about shit on the site, maybe clown some members, etc.

Also we're a Chicago sports site and when Lefty/FedEx do 643 Sports radio on Monday nights, nobody is really online at that time. If you were able to listen to a time slot....what time would be ideal for you? Just wondering why more people aren't online on Monday nights.

I think I'd check it out.

Why not put an app in? It can't hurt any at all.

haha...

Lefty - you've heard the radio show me, Nerrad and Greg_Punzo have done occasionally, correct? Seems like you tuned in not too awful long ago.

Yeah, I'm the same way with 670 The Score here in Chicago. I don't know how likely it is (probably not very), but the pipe dream is that someday, a link or copy of our show finds its way to one of their program directors and we get an e-mail from them wanting to talk. What really sucks is listening to some of the talent they currently have on the airwaves and knowing that we're better than them from a knowledge/quality/sound angle. Eh.

Yeah I've listened a few times. I even called in awhile back.

Yeah, asking you questions sounds good. Alright well be on the lookout for that once the puck drops.

Yeah, that's what we struggle w/...the sound and quality angle...we gotta rely on overall knowledge...

Our show is good for what it is...we could improve, but...baby steps I guess...

I remember you calling in now -- seems like we agreed on most points - haha.

That stuff will come with time. Awkward transitions, pauses waiting for the other to talk, stammering and not being comfortable with your voices (I'm assuming that you guys perceive at least one of these to be a "problem"), that will all go away or at least be minimized with time.

Look at us: in the beginning, it was very easy to tell that we were two shy idiots trying to do a show with the hosts being 150 miles apart. But now, we just sound like two idiots, and I'd bet people that listen to shows now would have a hard time figuring out that we still don't do the show from the same room.

My best advice would be to just listen more to what real sports radio you can find (or listen to a station on the internet like 670 here in Chicago) and keep doing shows. You might not be able to notice a change from one show to the next, but if after awhile you go back and compare a current show to one from 2/3/4 months ago you'd see a definite positive change.

Some other stuff, however, isn't so easy to mitigate. Your overall sound quality will always be limited by the service you use to do your live shows, and if that service's servers are having a rough night, you are more than likely going to sound like crap on the air. There are some things you can do to nip those problems in the bud, or at least make sure they're not too troublesome: if you're using the internet to do your show, make sure everyone has closed out all extraneous programs and internet windows (IMing programs, live streaming audio/video sites, downloads, etc.), because sometimes the problem isn't with the service's servers, but your own internet bandwidth consumption.

Also, while you don't need top-of-the-line audio equipment, going bargain-bin for your show gear can also hurt you. If you have the cash to spend on a condenser mic and a mixing board (AudioTechnica have good kits), and you're serious about doing your show, go for it. Otherwise, Best Buy usually has solidly priced dynamic headsets that do a good job.

I remember you calling in now -- seems like we agreed on most points - haha.

Well, I seem to remember you guys saying that you were just getting started or something like that, so I wasn't about to call into your show and rip on you for no reason, I have my own show for that.

I'm taking a class economics of sports and entertainment (yeah, right, just like ESPN is Entertainment and Sports), you could possibly discuss things related to the economics of sports leagues. I could call in advance, and pre-record a segment if we could figure a way to set that
