I've always heard that the Salvation Army is a great charity because a very large percentage of donations goes to help people as opposed to administration costs.

We give a lot of clothes, household stuff, etc.. to Vietnam Vets and some of the Cancer Foundations that offer monthly pick-ups.

I wonder if the clothes we donate just get shredded and sold a rags or whee stuff ends up.

How can you find out what amount of a donation goes to help rather than admin costs?

I've heard that there are some are very low percentage.

Yeah some are bad - I remember the Michael Jordan foundation only had 30 cents of every dollar collected actually go to charity. The other 70 cents went to pay salaries and admin costs of the foundation running it. Ugh! Mike Ditka and Chris Zorich had charity foundations as well that were both found to have some 'issues'.

Salvation Army is good - but I don't use the kettle cans - I always wonder about those bell tinklers emptying the can for themselves. I just give directly online to them instead.

Make a Wish foundation is excellent too but they can harass you at times. I used to get a call every Saturday at 7:30am for severl months from them after I sent them a large check. They kept waking me up and finally I had it and told them off. But they are a good charity and I would give to them again - I just didn't like the high pressure sales and early morning calls.

Aren't you a brave one putting your address out there. Aren't you afraid of what you will find in your little mail box? There are all kinds of crazies out there.

I know where I live the Salvation Army has a resale store where they sell donated stuff to make money for their programs. I have never heard any complaints about them.

It wouldn't be easy for me because I would never violate someone's privacy like that. It's called having morals and ethics and respect. Why didn't you give us something useful like your bank account number and pin number.

Geez, bri I was only being sarcastic, just saying I could, If I wanted to amplifying the fact its no big deal if anyone here knows my address because that information is already readily available to anyone who wants it.

You just did it to you ex last week. And I bitched at you then. I repeat just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

Now about that bank account number? I could use some extra Holiday cash.

Maybe I'll slip a ticket to a game in his mailbox.

I think he's already a STH though.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. If so you could give tickets to Tater. It sounds like he could use a little cheer and he seems super sweet.

No I am not a season ticket holder, I love hockey with all of my heart, but going to a game is an event I do a few times a year not fork over a percentage of my income for to go to every home game.
