Is it wrong that I'm too cynical to trust any charity?

Anywho... I saw an index out there than ranks them all. Can't remember where I found it, I think it was through a Snopes.com article on CEO salaries for charities. ANNNywho, they index all the major charity by certain factors including salaries and such and then give them a rating. I think Salvation army was pretty low. Like 85%... Might be something to look into WWF was a goodone I believe.

EDIT: Found the site.

don't know much about it, thought I would pass it on. Let me know if it helps.

EDIT2: Also found this: http://www.forbes.com/lists/2009/14/charity-09_The-200-Largest-U.S.-Charities_Name_7.html

I'm not sure in the history of time if a thread has ever been so horrifically derailed? And I mean that in the best possible way.

I used to think salvation army was a great organization . I did the plumbing on two new houses in evergreen park couple years ago they were really big and nice houses . And all I know is the salvation army ended up buying both houses for almost 400,000.00 each and paying cash for them , they ended up housing a salvation army captain and there families in each house long story short if they have that much cash laying around to buy those homes for cash how mqny houses do they buy every year. Anyway after seeing that what money I do have to give away will not go to them

I like stupid humor too, but this one was a pretty dry stupid humor. Didn't do anything for me.

Why doesn't it surprise me that you wouldn't be able to find the humor in this?

And Mass... you're welcome.

St Jude is also another worthy charity unless you want something closer to home.

I am going to offer up a bit of advise here. Oneof the things the Military does, all Branches, is the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) it is a fund drive/competition between the various branches as well as commands to see who can raise the most money to Charity. Part of this campaign, obviously is to get us to donate part of our checks to a charity, in so doing, each year they give out a booklet filled with the names of thousands of charities, and wht they are there for. Recently they made each charity show the percentage of each dollar that actually goes towards what they "stand for." You would be amazed at how many Charities area actually not really charities, but money making corporations.

So, my advise is, do some serious research prior to actually donating money to a Charity...because unfortunately, many of them out there, really don't give a damn about what they are "fighting for".

Charities can be a lot like people. Bitter disappointments. But there are some good worthy ones out there.

I should have elaborated on that. I always felt the Salvation Army was a good reliable charity, but i felt really sad and disappointed after reading Tommy's post. I know my grandma feels that way about a local charity that she contributed to and will no longer donate to them.

Tater, if you are looking to donate, Mr. Stu, Puckjim and his daughter, Soaps, and myself are all taking part in the Polar Bear Plunge for the Special Olympics of Illinois. I believe most if not all money collected goes toward the Special Olympics of Illinois.

This is where my money goes. I used to hate when I was overseas and I would hear people talking about how they supported troops, thinking the words helped when really all I wanted was to get tobacco, food, and porn. So with that mind set, I dont give money to fight anything. I would rather make sure that the last days of the dying kid are spent in video game bliss. The kid doesnt care if someone is fighting <insert ailment>. He just wants tobacco, food, and porn. Which for a kid is video games.
