They usually grade Bushrod pretty harshly too.

Leno may not be a good player, but if PFF happens to be right it's one of those situations where even a broken clock is right twice a day...

I find PFF can be a valuable tool but they tend to be very inconsistent IMO. Aside from what PFF thinks of Leno, just from watching (and re-watching) the game I would say Leno was far from the worst OT in the league. Is he Tyron Smith? No, but he has stepped in pretty admirably and faced one hell of a rush backer Sunday and held his own a lot of the day.

Man these ratings are messed up. The grading needs to be improved.

to give you some context, McPhee, who had a great game in run support and actually notched a sack and a blocked FG, only graded out at 3.2, the same as Justin Houston.

That's because they burned him 3 times in a row with the same play right before he blocked the FG. It's something he talked about during his interview after the game.

Although I do agree with your overall point that PFF is not nearly as accurate as I believe they could be.

It is about context

2nd career start
Terrific front 7
Super loud stadium

That could be a recipe for Cutler to get killed and not finish the game. Instead of him getting murdered he was able to make throws and win the game.

Was he pressured? Absolutely he was going to be pressure if Bushrod and Montgomery played.

No one is anointing Charles Leno, but that performance was better than expected. I understand we are setting a low bar, but he is essentially a 7th round rookie who is looking better than a complete bum.

I had a very low bar set coming into the game. Leno is a disaster at the RT and was supposed to be more suited to the LT. Minus the fact that playing LT is usually the hardest one to play.

With that said, I do not think he did a great job. What he did do was not be as much of a dumpster fire as I thought he would be. Overall though he was closer to the dumpster than the other way around.

I think he held up well against the Chiefs. Looking ahead, he'll probably end up as our backup LT next year, who'll spot start for either a rookie or a veteran not named Bushrod.
