The defense should be better and it was already pretty solid but it's going to come down to the offense. The only part of the Bears offense last season that was good were the running backs. Trubisky was inconsistent but he wasn't helped out by his below average offensive line and arguably the worst receiver corps in the NHL. The receiver corps is greatly improved which should be a major factor but the offensive line is still a question mark - especially if Long can't stay on the field. But it still comes down to Trubisky making plays and avoiding mistakes and turnovers.

Bottom line for me is I was more optimistic heading into this season than I have been in several years and now with Mack my optimism is elevated another notch.

I'm optimistic that between Nagy and Trubisky there will be a special quarterback/coach combo there and they have more than enough playmakers across that offense to make what they're going to try and do work. If you look at the Chiefs offense last several years, they did an amazing job. I expect the offense to be rolling by mid-season and the defense will be better than the Chiefs had. No reason why they can't and won't be a 12 win team.

I'm in many NFC North groups and have many friends of our division rivals. The ones I know who know football like what we did and realize we are much better for doing this.

I too wish we played the Pack in week two. Not sure how ready Mack will be for productive snaps.

I am glad GB is day 1, GB will have no pre knowledge of what to expect from the Nagy offense AND GB has some issues they need to iron out on the D side of the ball. If the Bears have a shot, this first game is the best shot. In my opinion  :beerbang:

Good point... and even if Mack isn’t fully game ready they have to account for him regardless.
A TE blocking isn’t getting open.

Bears have to earn respect on the field.

Offseason is offseason. Nothing that has happened matters until the games count. Not sure why that is surprising.

But if the bears start kicking ass people will take notice quick.

If Mack is not game ready for terms of playbook, just send him after Rodgers every play and let him come up to speed on the field.

If Mack is not game ready in terms of conditioning, then put him on a pitch count and let him get his reps. Mack and Acho for 30 plays for each is better than Mack for 0 and Acho for 60.

He and Smith are the only two contributors that give us hope for victory that have yet to play on the field with the rest of the team. Given that this offense can fall ass backwards into being better than last year's, and our defense getting more firepower, I fully expect a competitive game. We should be able to be a considered a genuine risk of upset to upset the favored team this year.

Honestly Mack doesn't make Trubisky a HOFer, so it still all depends on what we really have in him. He's got 1 less excuse to lose now though.

This is it here. This is all that matters. Even if Allen Robinson doesn’t pan out, we still are good enough at wide receiver to do something. At tailback, we’ve seen what Howard can do against stacked boxes that know we are running and with a shitty o-line. Add Cohen to that. So no excuse from our backs or our o-line. Defense, well, top 10 defense who added Mack and a rookie we can afford for him to learn on the go. It’s not like we had a bad ass linebacker before him. So even if we get the same production as Kwiatkoski from Smith, it should still be at least a top 10 defense. But we all know Smith should be better than Kwiatkoski.

So that only leaves Trubisky. This is the biggest question mark. A big question mark. It’s asinine for someone to say he’s going to flourish in Nagy’a system right off the bat because he’s more comfortable with this system because it’s more like his college system. Now to hope he does is way different than saying he will. Now do I hope he can right of the bat, of course. Does he have the potential to do it right of the bat, I think so. Will it happen, not sure. I think the percentage is a tad higher for him to flourish right of the bat with the weapons he has now and the more opportunities he may have to do something because of Mack and the defense. I’m cheering for him hard. I’m all in as far as me thinking he is our franchise quarterback. I think he has the smarts and the tools to be a top quarterback. But nobody knows and I as hell sure don’t.

So he is at the only position right now that has a question mark. It’s a good question mark in my opinion but it doesn’t change the fact that his performance is the main key. That key will either turn on “The Demon’s” 808hp engine at quarterback or it will make a clicking sound that will let us know we need to replace the the starter solenoid. (The replacement not coming in until at least 3 years more to see if he can get the engine to turn)

Or the Bears are shredding some cheese and don't need Mack out there the second half 'cause the Bears are up by some crazy score like 35-7.

I agree with the first part, about 10% of opposing fans get it. But 9 of 10 are clueless, they do not realize we improved in offense defense and coaching. And all that was before Mack. Now on part 2, I disagree. Mack and Smith know how to play football and will help greatly. (will get better with time of coarse) but week 1 GB will have no film at all. Week 2 and they get a good glimpse. Week one is to our advantage IMO.
PS. It might part of the reason why Nagy never played the first string much.

Mood from Packers fans shifted from "They won't trade Mack" to "Wow! Green Bay has inquired about Mack!" to "The Bears overpaid" pretty damn fast...

And hopefully right before game day, the truth that they know seeps out. “Man we are fucked going against Mack and that front 7”

Parkey did struggle in the preseason. I can't stand to see the Bears lose another game due to a missed 45 yarder.

People are still down on Chicago because the whole thing hinges on Turdbiskey and he wasn't exactly stellar last year.

I get that but last year no QB would have. Brady and AR would have sucked too here. But I disagree the whole thing rides on Trubs. Trubs needs only to play decent as we have a complete team. The defense alone will get us wins and the run game too. If Trubs balls out then SB. If he is average then 10 wins is possible. This is not GB where one player is everything. We can win in other ways without huge games from Trubs. I believe Trubs will be fairly decent and improving for 2 more years.
