Last year I tried my best to give the Tortelli's a fair shake. It's the first Cheers spin-off. And wow, what a terrible show. I put it up there with other bad shows that were simply given a chance based on a very short trend spike, like "What A Country!" and "Joanie Loves Chachi".

I forgotten about the Tortelli's. Not surprising.

I love this show, too. Of all the characters, I predict that young bartender guy has the worst career. He better hope the show never gets cancelled because he ain't going anywhere in Hollywood.

i'm the odd one that thought the show was incredibly slow and unfunny.
Nope. MASH usually tops my list for the most overrated series of all time. It went from kind of bad to really bad to please dear lord cancel this crap. I did like the movie a lot though...Sutherland is hilarious.

That's fair... I've met many people that felt the same...
I think they took a very serious topic and made light of it as people do in a really stressful situation...
Not trying to make too much of it... which I may be doing... just always thought it was cool how people could be in an unimaginable situation and deal with it.
Humor seemed to be the cure... I remember thinking of MASH later in my life and doing the same to get through the really bad shit... You know the kind of shit that was more than your mind could process as real....
At any rate... don't disagree with you... but for me MASH has a special place because it taught me a tool for processing something horrific... sometimes you just have to make fun of the things that overwhelm you the most... makes them less threatening...

Didn't mean to get deep... but do love MASH... loved Cheers too, Taxi, Hogan's Hero's, Magnum PI, Simon and Simon, Rockford Files, Sanford and Son, Welcome Back Carter, Hill Street Blues and one of my favorites was the Equalizer... which must have been ok cause they made a new movie with Denzel Washington based on it...

Taxi was a great show in fact I am watching it now on some retro channel. Only problem with Taxi was how unbelievable it was that all the cab drivers were white.

Andy Khaufman was brilliant.

I think my top non sketch comedy series are (in no specific order). Not that anyone cares or asked

Cheers
Seinfeld
WKRP
Taxi
South Park
Simpsons (before it ran itself to the ground)
Spaced
The Office (British version the USA one ran itself too long)
Honeymooners (I actually do agree with the older farts here it is classic)
Gilligans Island
Workaholics (its my guilty pleasure stupid show)

Sketch comedy is a different beast and are my fav form of comedy television

Mr Show
Kids In The Hall
Chappelle Show
Monty Pythons Flying Circus
Tim And Eric Awesome Show
Kroll Show (for a current)
Key and Peele (another current)
Picnic Face (very little know and short lived)
SNL (yah its cliche and they have had bad skits and years but the big skits and years are unforgettable)
Little Britain
Muppet Show

I must be the only person on this mudball that freaking hated Seinfeld. He is not funny and Michael Richard's best role was Stanley Spadowski in UHF.

Not going to argue about UHF Although an argument can be made that Richards best role was a really bad heckler at a comedy club.

I know a few people who hated it also. I liked it because it was really the first show I was exposed to where every single main character was a flat out shallow self centered ****. And I like that.
