And on Game No. 83, Starlin Castro rested. The Cubs shortstop, who had started all 82 previous games this year, and was the only player in the Major Leagues to do so, was not in the starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Mets. Castro, named to his second All-Star team, was batting .287. He’s 2-for-16 on this road trip. The Cubs face Mets lefty Johan Santana for the second time this season. Here’s the lineup:

Johnson RF

Barney SS

Rizzo 1B

Soriano LF

Baker 2B

Soto C

Mather CF

Valbuena 3B

T. Wood P

WE like Barney in our defense. He is not for sale.

I understand that Barney has really nice DEF but his OBP is not doing anything for the Cubs. So if they can get 2 prospects with good potential for him they will jump on it

For the right price, Castro is also for sale. It's just that nobody is going to pay that price :D

Anyone can be had for right price. I consider some guys untouchable though like Castro, Price, Strasburg, Harper, Felix, etc

Jon Morosi‏@jonmorosi

Sources: #Tigers asked #Cubs about second baseman Darwin Barney a couple weeks ago, but talks didn’t progress.

I heard Cubs asked for Crosby or Oliver just for him

you think DET would have given up a top spec for Barney? :rolling:

Of course not. But never hurts to ask  Detroit would've been dumb to do it but I wouldn't give them a chance for takebacks

If, however, they offer Barney as a throw-in (since Detroit needs help on defense, yeesh) for a Garza trade they might be able to sweeten the pot.
