I can't wait. I am trembling at the thought of having a team (besides what little core there is) filled with utility players taking the field every day.

Cheers to another top 5 pick in 2015.

His actual line and peripherals suggest he could be a suitable major league player just not a star or anything. Hey, up his trade value and he could be part of a package to land us something. Not everybody is going to be a star or make a major impact. The troops are coming. Bryant and Baez are going to be up then the Cubs should be cooking with fire. Most power potential out of any Cubs player since DLee in his prime.

I think Almora is on the border of AA as well. Depending on how he does in the AFL, he could join Soler in AA to start season.

I saw Almora with Kane County this past summer - dude absolutely should start in AA the way he was hitting the ball, age be damned. Kid can crush it.

NOTE: Player not eligible for selection if added to MLB 40-man roster by 11/20. Also, Juan Carlos Paniagua signed his first contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks as "Juan Callado" on 5-8-2009 and pitched for the DSL Diamondbacks in the Dominican Summer League in 2009-10, but the contract was "pending" for almost two years and was never officially approved by MLB. The contract was eventually rejected by MLB due to "fraudulent paperwork" and Paniagua (Callado) was suspended for one year and then was declared a free-agent. He signed with the New York Yankees in March 2011 but then was suspended again and that contract was rejected, too, because his birth certificate could not be verified. Paniagua was cleared by MLB in 2012 and he signed with the Cubs on 7-9-2012. Therefore, Paniagua could be eligible for selection in the Rule 5 Draft for the first time in December 2013, since 2009 was his "first season" on the field and he was 18 on the June 5th immediately preceding the signing of his first contract, or he might not be eligible for selection in the Rule 5 Draft for the first time until December 2015 if 2012 is considered Paniagua's "first season" for Rule 5 eligibility purposes.

The 40 man roster stands at 37 right now, but there are 4 players currently on the 60 day DL. Those players don't count against the 40 man roster right now, but once the World Series is done there is no DL. Then again the Cubs have three free agents to be in Matt Guerrier, Scott Baker and Kevin Gregg. So if the Cubs just let everything play out the 40 man is actually at 38. That leaves one spot for a free agent signing and the ability to add Alcantara who is the only most add. The Cubs might lose a few guys in rule 5 again this year as the Cubs depth at the bottom of the 40 man roster is actually better than most teams. The problem is that the talent at the top of the roster is well below average.

There's no one on the 60-day DL right now, besides Fujikawa. But he'll start next season on the 60-day DL.

Dolis cleared waivers and was optioned
Neal cleared waivers and was optioned.
Putnam cleared waivers and was optioned.

The roster is at 37 right now, then when the season concludes it'll go to 34 with Gurrier, Gregg and Baker free agents.

Well 38 after world series with Fujikawa activated for the time being. Then 35 with free agents.

Arodys Vizcaino, Fujikawa, and Mat Gammel are all on the 60 day DL at the moment.

This is the best source for this information and it has the Cubs as having 37 players active plus 4 players on the 60 day DL. The players I listed above and Guerrier.http://www.thecubreporter.com/cubs-40-man-roster

I know they are coming but they still have huge hurdles in AAA and then the major leagues.

Finding these guys like Sweeney to put up good numbers so they can try and flip them is getting a bit tiresome. You can't tell me that there isn't someone out there that can be a part of the team moving forward.

It would be nice to actually see some jerseys being worn acknowledging current Cub greatness or players versus seeing a bunch of Maddux, Banks, Jenkins, Williams, Sandbergs, and Santo jersey's in the audience (sarcasm).

How can the management dump a player like Soriano and pay most of his salary to boot, and keep a bum like Darwin Barney on the team?

Couldn't agree more. Soriano was a fun player to watch. Barney has a great glove but you cannot have a starter be that bad at the plate. They are just waiting for Alcantra/Baez to take his spot next year. Baez and Alcantra should be up early summer unless something bad happens so that should fix 2B, and 3B at least hopefully. Olt is a wild card as well.

Theo won't start the Arb clock on anyone he feels that will be a core piece. Bank on that.

He will move every player just as he did with Rizzo. Alcantara would be a rare exception and he would have to prove himself early enough to warrant an early call up.

Speaking of Alcantara, I really hope the Cubs make him a left handed bat only. Trust me, by his numbers, he shouldn't even swing the bat right handed. Their is that much of a difference.
