Our pitching is better than there's.

And that was kind of a fluke game. You don't score 21 runs every game. Not even every year.

That is why their ERA is better by .22 runs and their ERA+ is better by 10

But as far as matchups. Other than Floyd having a .01 higher ERA, every other matchup the Sox pitcher has a better ERA.

Are we talking about the same thing? I thought the our pitching line was in reference to the Rangers.

 I was talking Mariners for some reason.

The Rangers have a good staff, but guys like Holland are like Floyd but worse. Ups and downs.

And ERA is one of the only stats that the Rangers actually lead in.

Sox have better WHIP and better WAR

Sox have a lower opposing BA.

Sox have given up less HRs, hits, extra base hits, and runs.

There is an argument for the Sox been better I agree, but I just didn't think it was as clear cut as the statement you made it appear. Also if Oswalt has anything left in the tank that makes that staff even more dangerous.

But he's not the guy that gave up 21 runs. What I basically meant was that the pitchers that pitched that gave up 21 runs are worse than Peavy, Floyd, and Sale. And the Sox bullpen is probably better than the Rangers one too. Pretty close there as the Sox bullpen is young and sample size kind of plays in.

Yeah I don't know about that whole bullpen part. The Rangers pen is pretty good. They had a bad day which is pretty easy to have once in a while at that ballpark. I agree ultimately that the Mariners scoring 21 runs has little effect on the offensive performance they will have against the Sox, but I also wouldn't write off the Rangers pitchers that day as clearly worse than what the Sox will put up against the M's.

My point was that the Sox pitching will be much better than it was against the Mariners that game. We won't give up 21. That's all I was saying.

Mariners won't put up those kind of numbers against us in this series and the Sox offense will probably still be rolling. And it will be good to be back home for Konerko who is not very good at the Trop. Even though the sox are 13-14 at home this year, it will be good to be home.

Well I highly doubt the Mariners score 21 runs again as well, but that has very little to do with the pitching they face.

Derek Holland is still a pretty good pitcher, and I think you guys would gladly take him over Gavin Floyd. And the Rangers threw guys like Mike Adams, Koji Uehera, and Alexi Ogando in that game as well all of whom would be capable of finding a home in the Sox pen.

The matchups favor you guys in the series, but this is baseball. We shall see.

Of course. Holland is great. That's why I compared him to Floyd. Good pitcher, but sometimes the game gets away from him. Holland is better than Floyd and I agree that I would gladly take him over Floyd.

Another thing about baseball is that when you have the momentum and confidence that you can beat the best teams in the league, that often helps you win games. Right now the Sox are winning and that's going to help them. The Mariners also have the confidence coming off that 21 run game.

Should be interesting.

I agree with about everything you posted there except for the momentum comment. As my favorite manager said momentum is the next day's starting pitcher.

Haha. True.

I think momentum is big, but it can change really easily in baseball. A simple home run or missed call can ruin the momentum of a long win streak.

im starting to get away from that. right before the cubs/sox i saw the matchups and was irritated thinking we get swept. than we sweep, same with the indians. I think im going to stop looking because one day im gonna be all excited and see our matchup and we will get swept, therefore kicked in the nuts.

I'd take any of the Sox pitchers any day just because each one has the capability of doing something good whether or not they did that the last game or not.

Not being a homer, but I like the Sox staff for that reason. Sometimes it can be frustrating, but it's pretty reliable if they all pitch to their potential.

But no series is an easy one. Hope the Sox have the offense back to firing on all cylinders. And they can't leave runners in scoring position with less than two outs!
