Since the dollars were the same and everyone including the Hawks says we loved Campoli's play last season, I am guessing Campoli must have either pissed someone off or was acting like he thought he was a bigger deal than he was. Might have just been a personality/attitude issue.

I never thought about it that way, great point. Wonder if all that talk about how well he did from the coaching staff and players really did get to his head. Anyway, I think Stan will package him up with somone or someway to get our second line center, I couldn't see it another way, and to why he would just say he is not fitting our system. Makes no sense. Jr. got some grit in free agency to fill our weakness last year. Just wondering if he is waiting for the Rangers and Devils arbitration. I mean if anything he rose to the performance we wanted and looked good in the playoffs and gelled well for someone coming in midseason. Stan can sell all that.

No, I see them as two completely different types of players, and while they were the same price, the need on this team was much higher for a player like Montador. Making him more valuable to this team than Campoli. Plus I don't think you give that kind of money to a guy who had to be traded just to show up... If I remember correctly, Ottawa wasn't too heartbroken about getting rid of him. I think he's in for a rude awaking come arbitration.

The only big difference I think in Montador/Campoli is the fact that Montador plays the PK and he's a bit bigger while Campoli is more of a PP guy, capable of more minutes, and better puck mover. Otherwise both of them are fairly physical, more suited for the bottom pairing, and capable of reaching 25-35 points

Link? I, too, thought his hearing wasn't for another couple weeks.

Sorry DBQHawkFan, I accidentally deleted your post so I'll just attach the quote:

I thought that Campoli's hearing wasn't until August 3rd.

From my understanding, the Hawks and Campoli decided to have the hearing ahead of scheduled since they both knew that an agreement would not be reached, so they did this in order to speed up the process.

From what I understand Campoli was looking for $3M+ but was awarded $2.5M in arbitration. I think that sounds about right for Campoli.

Pez, my source is "anonymous" LOL

It's blowing up on Twitter now though, Dreger, Kuc, Sassone, Rogers all tweeted by now.

Interest in Campoli

9:00AM ET

Chris Campoli | Blackhawks

Chris Campoli is a free man.

The defenseman became an unrestricted free agent after the Chicago Blackhawks walked away from a one-year, $2.5 million salary awarded in arbitration. Campoli's hearing was moved up after the Blackhawks and blueliner agreed they would be going their separate ways, regardless.

The 27-year-old won't have much issue snagging another assignment in the league. According to USATODAY, Campoli's agent said he's already fielding calls regarding his client from other general managers.

"There's not a lot of puck-moving free agents that are available and certainly not within his age category," Rich Evans said.

The Boston Bruins are reportedly still in the market for a puck-moving defenseman like Campoli. The New York Islanders may also be interested in re-acquiring the player they originally drafted in 2004. Especially since the Isles still need to spend some money to reach the salary floor.
