I don't know, that jelly of the month club sounded pretty sweet.

I prefer the in ground pool with the hot chick flinging her panties at me.

But I'd settle for jelly of the month i suppose.

I mean at least from my perspective.

Anything over 82k Federal income tax takes 24% anyways....

IT Managers/Directors in Chicago make well over that number.

So any tax they take out of a bonus is the same as income tax.

Isn't that just depressing af? Make me cringe looking at my paycheck and what I pay in taxes so naturally I just don't look at it unless I absolutely have too.

Taxation is theft.

How could you say this? The powers that be are honest and responsible with what they do with our money. Only goes to help us, am I right?

Don't get me started on wasteful government spending.

No Xmas/holiday bonus of any kind.

Our old parent company did gift cards one year and then never again.

Some years they have forked out money to treat our office and spouses to a nice dinner/drinks.

Some years (this year) we're just doing a small holiday happy hour.

Never a consistent thing....
Story time.

Several companies ago, I was the Chief Marketing Officer at an e-commerce company that sold products in the office supply space.

It was family owned, and there were 2 brothers and a father that were never on the same page, and always going behind each other, and trying work their agenda through me. They were Muslims, which really didn't matter except for this particular story.

At Christmas time they invited everyone to a local place for dinner, to exchange gifts, etc. All of the employees were drinking (as you do at these things) and everyone seemed to be having an ok time.

We get to the end of the evening and one of the brothers pulls me aside and tells me the father is upset because he has a moral problem with company funds paying for alcohol, then not so subtly tells me that I need to pick up the drink tab, and they'll pick up the food. I did it, but I wasn't happy about it because it was never discussed and kind of came out of nowhere. This was about an hour after I told the asshole that my wife was pregnant with our daughter.

How's that for a Christmas bonus?

I left shortly after that. Not because of this situation specifically, I've got horror stories for days. It was the worst job I've ever had. Made a bunch of money but it was 100% not worth it.

I took over my boss' job a month ago, my "significant compensation increase" and title bump to Director are still in the works.

I am none too happy with them right now.
Take the title, ride it out for a bit, pad your resume some by documenting everything. Then shop around, and make a huge salary jump. Probably way more than you even think you could get. Internal promotions tend to be the bare minimum they think they can get away with that makes you happy enough not to leave. That's my 2 cents.

Yeah that's true.

When I got promoted, I got 1k over the bare minimum for my position. They were also looking for external candidates and hired another woman for 13k more than the gave me. Yes, she had more experience, but not enough to warrant that big of a difference.

What was even more infuriating was the fact that she fuckin sucked and left the company a few months later. In meantime, I was still doing great work... then they hire another external candidate for about 12k more than what I originally got... and so far, he fuckin blows.

I'm gonna wait until Spring before I ask for a raise. If I don't get it, I'll be looking. It's gonna be tough though because I love my coworkers, boss, job, company, commute, and benefits. All that means a lot to me and is why I haven't looked yet. Eventually though, I also want to get paid for all the work I put in.

Yeah, it's tough when you legit love the people you work with, for, the company, etc. I had that situation earlier in my career. I was making like 80k but my responsibilities and performance were waaay beyond that, and I knew for a fact that people on my level inside the company were making significantly more, most with worse results. I pushed for a promotion, got a title and an incremental raise. Finally got to the point where I felt like I was being taken advantage of, got offered $130k elsewhere and left. The decision still sucked, because I really liked it there. But money.

Yeah, I think companies do that because they know most people fear changing jobs and want to be comfortable with where they're at.

Obviously, it's working on me a little bit. Even the promotion piece. I know if I'm patient enough and keep doing good work, I could get another promotion within the next couple of years. I'm only 27, so it's a little tougher because I'm competing against people with decades of experience... Not to brag or anything, but my name holds a lot of weight in my department, so I'm confident that I can beat others out. That's where the fear of leaving creeps in. If I leave and go elsewhere, I kind of have to prove myself all over again, and even then it might not be enough. If I stay put, I can continue climbing the ladder until I decide I want to stop.

Not an easy decision at all, but ultimately it may be necessary for a lot of people.

I definitely understand where you are coming from, it was a very similar for me in the situation I described above. When I joined that company there were only around 30 employees, when I left it was almost 300. And I was like number 7 on the list of people who had been there the longest. The only others with more tenure, were the CEO, other C level execs and a few VPs.

Ultimately though, it might not be a bad thing if you have to prove yourself all over again. It could be a big opportunity for growth. Sure, it is scary...but people don't tend to grow in comfortable situations.

I think it really comes down to the level of respect they show you, and based on what you've already said, it isn't there. If it were they wouldn't be compensating new people in the organization at a much higher level than you, if they truly valued what you bring to the table. Instead they are giving you what they think they can get away with, and in my opinion that is disrespectful to you. Like I said, a very similar situation. I was like 29-30ish when all that happened.

Damn, that's rough hahaha. Well at least you seem to be happy with how things have turned out for you since leaving.
