Okay, to my bros on CCS who are married or live with their womans. Need some inputski. Single guys will be like.. Wuuut & troll? But your day will come.


For the last month, girly and I have been racking our heads on closet organization. We have those white laminated wire shelf system type of deal now in most of the closets which work *okay* at best, and some elaborate and expensive deal from Ikea that straight up works a lot better in store than at home(yes, this thing is utter garbage). 90% of the things stored in each closet goes in and out within a few weeks, so no space bags and tubs. This is all active storage. Long term is already organized to near-perfection.

Seeing how this seems to be one of those bi-annual projects women like to force onto their guys(along with painting a room for the sake of calling yourself a DIYer), any of you recently find some breakthrough ideas that simply stick. This is my 4th closet make-over project and I just want to be done with it until either 1) moving or 2)we terraform Mars.

Pile everything you dislike on the floor with bags from Christmas and amazon boxes and hang the clothes you like on the hangars randomly..... ideally more worn stuff shifts to the front of the queue and lesser worn stuff to the back..... it is like the Free Market for closet organization.

We're redoing it at the hardware level for the 3rd time. That's 3 times where she did just that, whatever the **** she wanted. This time she isn't planning it alone, especially if I'm the one doing 99% of the labor.

That's how it worked out when my wife and I moved into our house lmao.

In all seriousness though - I don't know what size or the dimensions of your closest, but I'd rid those stupid wire racks out. Then place two poles running parrallel with the wall. One at the top and one half way down the wall. Then put a small shelf above the bottom pole and you can put shoes, folded shirts, PJs, pants, etc. Basically whatever you can't hang up. That's how my master closet is done on both sides.

I know it's not your style, but just hire someone to do it. Seriously. A melamine closet system will not cost you that much. It's 100x better than that dirty collapsing wire crap, and a good contractor will draw you up plans that will maximize your space... and put a warranty on their work.

We hired a closet guy (no homo) and we had him install a drawer system inside the closet with 2 levels of hanger space on each side. It doubled what we had before with a single pole... and I got 36" x4 drawers of dresser space and she got a shit-ton of cubbies for her shoe collection.

He was one of the few contractors that we hired to do work when we first moved in and it was totally worth it.

Wife and I have two separate walk in closets side by side. To the far wall straight ahead is where the rods to hang shit up are. 1 on top and 1 below it. Along both side walls are just wooden shelves built right in. Would seem like an easy enough DIY project. I don't know how fancy you'd want your closet though.
