Nobody is claiming that the calls were literally the only factor in the entire game but impact the outcome. But the ridiculous “yeah, the refs protected the big ten’s cfp chances and screwed you, but you could have thrown 4 td passes so it doesn’t matter” is a bit silly.It's saying that excuses are bullshit and Illinois had every opportunity to win the game and didn't.
The first drive-by Michigan was horrible defense by Illinois and it certainly had a big impact in a two point game. But that doesn’t somehow make it OK to say we’re gonna call it a complete pass when it’s clearly on the ground.
