Could we be nearing the end of the oil leaking?

New Orleans, Louisiana (CNN) -- BP appears to have placed a new containment cap on its well in the Gulf of Mexico that's been leaking oil since an explosion and fire April 20. BP hopes the new cap will be able to completely contain the gushing oil, but tests are still needed to determine its effectiveness.

In the meantime, here goes the Obama administration.

Earlier Monday, the U.S. Interior Department said Monday it was issuing a new moratorium order in a second effort to block deepwater oil and natural gas projects.

The new moratorium is to "protect communities, coasts, and wildlife" while oil and gas companies implement safety measures to reduce the risks of blowouts and oil spills associated with deepwater drilling, the government said.

The ban will be in effect through November 30, 2010, or until Interior Secretary Ken Salazar determines that deepwater drilling operations can proceed safely.

A previous six-month ban issued in the wake of the Gulf oil disaster was thrown out by a federal judge in New Orleans. Last week, a federal appeals panel rejected the government's request to overturn the lower court judge's decision.

This may be a stupid question, but aren't most of the workers in the deep see oil and gas industry from the area that has been hit so hard by this oil massacre? If you put a ban on these projects isn't it only going to put more of those workers in the unemployment line?

But as in all things captialistic in nature we must be protected from ourselves because

the government knows better then us. Have "they" ever really appeared to care about the Gulf coast since this began?

I'm glad they finally capped it. Hopefully it's a permanent fix so I don't have to continue hearing the pundits debate the feasibility of nuking an oil well in Gulf.

As for the Obama admin, they seem to keep stepping on their dicks collectively. Hoping for a Tea Party sweep in the mid terms. Then he'll really need to take in a few more rounds of golf.

From what I understand, this cap isn't supposed to be a permanent solution. It is just there to stop the flood until the relief wells can be drilled. Hopefully it suits that purpose and the relief wells are finished soon.

As for Barry and his merry band of arrogant fuckups..........just another way to waste some more of the taxpayers money. They know damn good and well they don't have the authority to keep people from working in the Gulf. This will be shot down in court as well.

Lastly, one of the oil companies has said "sayonara" and plans to move operations out of the Gulf. Either they are bluffing, or they may be first in a long line of companies who won't deal with the bullshit and will take their work elsewhere. If ANYONE thinks this administration isn't trying to bankrupt the country and put everyone out of work then you are a fucking moron.

No more than the Bush administration did. Really, if anyone thinks ANY of the political parties have their best intrests at hear they're really taking the full fist.

Anyhow, I did read an interesting article on a cheap way to cap the oil was to get some large, heavy iron objects to fit in the hole--like, say, cannon balls, dead automibile engines, etc. dump enough in there to slow the rate of expulsion, then go to smaller and smaller objects that are heavier than the oil until you get down to sand. eventually, the viscosity of the oil/gas would prevent any significant leakage through the small passageways between the particles used to fill the hole.

Problem solved. Hell, they could have solved it with the entire cash for clunkers program.

La.'s Governor came out publicly yesterday and said the ban on drilling would destroy their economy and that she thought it was wrong. She's a Democrat.

People are starting to figure the puzzle out.

Guess we'll all have to wait to find out. Federal government is not allowing BP to test the vavles as "more analysis is needed." Eh-Hole shitbags. Let it get worse so they can drag everyone and everything into their grasp.

Shares of BP (BP) are up $2.79, or almost 8%, at $38.97, after treading water for most of the day, as the company said its testing of a new cap placed on the well head revealed the cap had stopped oil from leaking into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since April once all of its valves were shut, according to an Associated Press report this afternoon.

I just don't understand how BP hasn't been absolutely annihilated financially by this disaster yet. I realize they are all passing the buck, but you take out the big dog and let him worry about recouping from the people they contracted. If you can't touch them off the coast you destroy them directly in the states. They should have been forced to sell something to pay off their debts by now... This is no oil spill tanker, this oil spill is more disgusting and greasy than New Jersey on a sat. night.
