really at the end of the day it's just a weighted average. only really means anything to help gauge teams across the world against each other. costa rica certainly deserves it, and mexico has played very well for years. the usa didn't exactly light up the world cup.

honestly, can you look at any of the teams above the usa and say that we have a legitimate shot at beating them consistently?

Umm Mexico was garbage last year. They really didn't even deserve to qualify for the World Cup.

And I'd still take us over Costa Rica despite them going a game further

Mexico tied Brazil in Brazil. Can you honestly say the U.S. would have done the same?

One game doesn't necessarily say how good a team is.

They deserve it... for now anyways.

Still would take US over both of them on a neutral field any day of the week.

Nothing short of a head to head matchup does. I'm giving you bits of information which show that Mexico might be better as of now. They played better than the U.S. in the World Cup.

US have won 1 and tied 2 against Mexico over the last year, including WCQs. Would be interesting to see a competitive match between them now, since Mexico has become a different team since the qualifiers, but I would still take the US.

You mean the same Brazil team that got humiliated by Germany 1-7?

Like BillikenBear I would also take the U.S. over Mexico and Costa Rica any day of the week.

That game against Germany was an anomaly but you already know that and the reasons why.

So maybe Mexico's tie was an anomaly as well?
