It depends on how strong your team rivalry is and how die hard of a fan you are. Like some college fan bases I don't think it'd work for (if you're both die hards) like Auburn/Alabama, Clemson/South Carolina, Ohio State/Michigan. Though I don't really see too many girls being die hard fans. Pretty rare if you ask me. Unless they live in a die hard family and their family would hate you with the power of 1000 suns.
As a Cardinal fan, I've dated a Cub fan and it wasn't an issue. And as a Bear fan I've dated a Packer fan and it also wasn't an issue.
