This is a stream for the Glendale City Council.

The council will be voting on whether or not the city will put out another 25 mil to keep the Yotes in Arizona (extension of arena agreement). It is the last on the agenda. Discussion going on now.

It is relevant to the Hawks as it may, consequentially, result in some realignment (Wangs may move to the Eastern Conference) if council denies the extension.

That'd be so shitty to only play yet another original 6 team, and our rival, once a season.

If realignment is necessary I'd rather see Columbus go to the East.

Would it be to Quebec City or Winnepeg?

With Atlanta ownership/relocation up in the air, both may be in the mix.

Make an Original 6 division. That'd be sweet. The way Boston, Chicago, Detroit and Montreal have been the last few years, that would be a very competitive division. Even the Rangers have made the playoffs recently and Toronto looked like they were on the upswing at times this year.

Thatd be cool if I wasn't also a Leafs fan.

Phoenix doesn't deserve a team... they don't support them!

Give Winnepeg back their team.

Phoenix city council voted to pay 25 million and keep them here in az

our state is poor and we are 48th in education spending in the US, but lets shell out 25 mil to keep a dying franchise here!

God Damnit I swear this is the worst run state

I feel bad for you having to live. You have some fucked up people running that state. Can't say Indiana is much better though with Mitch Daniels.

I like your guys' idea for an all Original Six division. I don't know how likely that is but I like it. I always felt like they should keep the Winter Classic between the Original Six as well, but I suspect a lot of other teams would complain to much for that to happen.

There are worse. The south is the worst. But I'll leave my political views off this thread. No need to heat things up.

Anyways, Phoenix is just delaying the inevitable. This is a loss for the city and the state. Hockey is just not a southern thing.

If they were to move to Quebec City (which was mentioned as a possibility other than Winnipeg), that move would actually be a relocation further east than Toronto.

As it stands now, moot, but does answer your question.

Any details about the deal? When will they decide about the year after?

What was odd was that the CoG council was really cryptic during the meeting...like they knew something substantial that they could not share to the public. JR is rumored to be back in the mix - maybe there is something to that?

Shortsighted, yes, you have an excellent point; however, what may happen to Jobbing and the area surrounding it? Do you remember what happened to Pontiac/Silverdome? Maybe a year makes a difference to prevent a similar obliteration? And, maybe you're right and it makes little/no difference at all and it's another 25 million simply burned.

Did they owe Jobbing 20mil regardless of the Yotes staying or going in order to keep it an operational venue for concerts and other such events? If so, what's another 5 for the prospect of potentially making it back + in the future possibly from it and surrounding businesses?

Won't ever happen. Five of the six Originals are top eight in road attendance for the league. They bring in too much money in other arenas to decrease the amount of games spread out around the league.

I remember there being talks about this 2 years back when they fired Gretzky. It's quite a shame that the Coyotes aren't getting enough fan support in Phoenix because they have a pretty talented team that has made the playoffs two years in a row now.

I believe that's the plan. Try to get a stable ownership group that intends to keep 'em in Glendale by December 31. The NHL can then begin the relocation process.
