If the Cubs did trade away Starlin Castro, then they are doing the complete opposite of what their plan was. He came up through the farm system. He will be turning 25 next year and already has three all star appearances.

You never know. I am starting to wonder if the Cubs are maybe planning on moving Baez to 3B at the start of the year, and when Bryant comes up, either move him or Bryant to LF. Coghlan should be able to hold down the fort for a few weeks IF Bryant doesn't make the team out of ST. This would save them the money of having to go and get a free agent to platoon or play LF, although, that still may be in the works.

If reports are true, and they believe the Cubs are leading the pack in acquiring Russell Martin, I like where this team is going.

(IF) they can sign Martin, that would be two plus OBP and contact hitters with low strikeout totals joining the team which is a must with all of the rookies, and Castro who is not known for taking free passes.

I am hoping this comes to fruition, and then the Cubs could focus on the pitching with a potential leader behind the plate helping in the pursuit of players on the free agent market.

It would send a clear message to have a couple of guys like this (not so much La Stella) and Maddon, that the Cubs indeed are turning the corner and moving ahead with a little punch of the accelerator. ;)

Well with my late reply, the Cubbies aren't getting Martin lol. But yeah, I wouldn't be mad at moving Baez to third and Bryant to the outfield. That would open a spot up for La Stella at 2B. I just really don't want to trade Castro, especially when we can give up a few prospects who haven't proven anything at the MLB level

I dont mind this scenario too much with La Stella, Baez, and Bryant especially since there not much to bring in via FA for position players.. my only concern would be is
La Stella and Alcantara enough to off set all the big RH bats in lineup

I'm not sure if I read that right, but you concern is the lack of LH batters in the line-up? If so, I definitely understand that concern! With that said, has La Stella played any other position other than 2B? I only ask because he might just be a player we us as a utility guy when Bryant/Baez/Castro need a rest. If that's the case, I think we'll be in the market for a left handed hitting outfielder (are there any FA's/trade candidates that come to mind in that scenario?)

He could play at third but he's never sniffed SS. I do see him as a utility guy.

It was a slight concern but I forgot about rizzo, so no longer a concern...

Looking at LaStella stats it shows he only played 2B, so I dont know it kinda makes you think their looking to keep him there, move Baez to 3B, and Bryant in LF..
But if their looking for veteran presence then who knows. ..

I see him as a great insurance policy. He is going into ST with the chance to make the starting line-up. His range from what I have read is nothing spectacular, but he will get his playing time and if Baez struggles in the least bit, or maybe is packaged, the Cubs still have a LH, high OBP player in the line-up.

No team is immune to injuries, and Soler, Baez or anybody else can go down for short or long stretches at a time. This is a good really signing, and at worst, improves the bench greatly.

Lol I swear to God, I forget about Rizzo all the time. Best hitter in the line up and slips my mind! But yeah, whatever the scenario may be, I don't want us to trade Castro
