CUBS are a BIG MARKET. they have the money...the owner is a cheap ass

Think about it...Payroll going down 15 mil from 2010. Manager salarly going down 4 mil. Lost Pitching coach who was well payed and now they can sign cheap guy. So they are going to be spending about 20 mil less then last year. Owner put advertisment in LF. put a noodle in front of wrigley for money. Where all that money going?. IN THE OWNERS POCKET. dont tell me he putting it in Wrigley. Wrigley would draw fans with the work or not the work. If they put a winning team out in the field people would show up in a parking lot to see the Cubs win.
But with the current contracts, they have NO MORE money, too much is already committed.
We still don't have enough. We are 5 players away from winning the division, they don't have the money for all of that. Trading away all of our top prospects when we won't contend anyway is dumb.
With Jeff Baker signed they have 104 mil commited. With the 6 arb guys payroll be 118-120 mil. Thats 25 mil less then last year. NO REASON THEY CANT HAVE 145-155 MIL PAYROLL. THEY ARE A BIG MARKET TEAM. They also only have 63 mil budgeted for 2012 right now. So BACK LOAD CONTRACTS like the CHW did
Backloading is what's killing us right now.
And no, with all the arb players it will be more than 118-120.
The BoSox had better prospects than the Cubs. Even though they didn't trade their top 1B, he's still better than any 1B the Cubs could have offered. The Padres wanted a 1B in any trade for Gonzo, since they were losing their own 1B. Who would we have given them?
Do you not realize the Red Sox have a damn good farm system?
Do you realize that they have drafted LOWER then CUBS every year....
Marmol 5 mil
Soto 3 mil
Marhall 2 mil
Gorz 2 mil
Hill under 1 mil
? dont remember lol....so thats 14 mil on top of 104...so 118 mil
But they've drafted better. And now, in the 2009 draft they drafted higher than the Cubs.
They have built a better farm, a higher draft doesn't mean they actually end up better.
You are lowballing on Soto and Marshall.
Theres another good point Y u spend money on ALL STARS instead of waiting for specs. Cubs dont draft good. Hard to rebuild when our people cant draft.
Do you realize that they have drafted LOWER then CUBS every year....
They didn't used to draft good, now they are getting better at that and they have foreign academies.
Soto first time so should only be around 3 mil.....
Marshall may get 2.5 but not much more for RP with no saves.
How do u know they are drafting better? They are called specs for a reason. Vitters hasnt done shit in minors. Cashner is a RP. Other guys in our system we have no idea what they might or might not become.
