Good news: at 62-81, the Cubs would need a miracle to lose 100 games.

Bad news: Cubs don't suck enough to have a top 5 pick.

Good news: nobody knows how next year's draft class will shape up but it probably won't be as good as this year's was.

Bad news: watch the Astros or Royals pick a can't miss guy while the Cubs get the scraps.

Good news: this year's draft for the Cubs was much better than the Astros, or anyone else in the division overall.

Bad news: it's going to be 3+ years before most of those guys are remotely ready.

Unless one of them is the next coming of Albert Pujols, we will definitely have to wait a bit.

Things that are good. Are worth the wait.

Cubs currently tied with San Diego. If they finish tied with SD, they will have draft precedence due to previous year's record, and can do no better than the #5 pick in next year's draft.

Reverse Standings (MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com)

For today. If the Cubs win, they will get either the 7 or 8 pick depending on what happens with the Pirates.

If the Cubs lose, then they'll be tied with San Diego and get at least the 6 pick. If Kansas City wins after that, the Cubs will get the 5 pick.
