Cuban as a Dodger owner means a massive increase in salaries for NL teams if they want to have a shot at the NL title

That's true. He would definitely be a spender and a guy who could bring in whatever it takes to win, especially in LA.

I'm not so sure about that. When he wanted the Cubs, he said he wouldn't spend like crazy. Could have just been him wanting to get the team, but a high payroll doesn't translate to WS victories. I wouldn't be too worried about it from the other teams POV.

OT: Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos kidnapped UPDATE Safe 11/11

 wow

From Rafael Rojas of Viva Colorado, a bilingual news source connected to the Denver Post, comes word that Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped from his home in Marcay, Venezuela.

There aren’t many more details available at the moment and it might be hard to come by accurate information as this situation plays out, but we’ll pass along whatever we can find as soon as we find it.

Ramos batted .267/.334/.445 with 15 home runs and 52 RBI in 113 games this past season for the Nats. The talented 24-year-old was playing winter ball back in his native country for Tigres de Aragua BBC.

A reminder of how fucked up the situation that a lot of current major league players came from, and the fact that their extended families are still dealing with those situations (Ugueth Urbina comes to mind).

UPDATE, 8:17 PM: According to Venezuela’s El Nacional, Ramos was captured by four gunmen. The kidnappers have not yet contacted the Ramos family to seek a ransom for his release.

UPDATE, 8:37 PM: Venezula’s El Siglo says the kipnapping took place at 7:30 p.m. local time and that Ramos was with his family when captured. He was the only one taken away.

Really fucked up, If I made money as a ball player and lived in a dangerous situation I would move my family. You are making good money, get out of the fucking ghetto.

In this case the ghetto is in Venezuela

Hope he turns up alive and able to continue pursuing his dreams.

He's playing Winter ball for the Nats over there.

He's still alived and not dead, like some reports have stated.

Kidnapping is common there as our payouts. From what I know, it's rare for someone to die. I had a coworker whose niece was kidnapped and taken there. Apparently the government doesn't do much. On a positive note, the niece has been reunited with her Dad
