Cubs need to start from the farm system. Ricketts will not spend the money on free agency. At least nobody who will make a difference to the outcome of the season.
I would rather have the club forgo free agency, show some confidence in the young players and put the money into developing a farm system which can constantly feed the parent club. (Tampa Rays)
The Cubs have to create a foundation to build on. Currently they don't have one player on the parent club who can be part of that foundation.
I would rather watch a team of hungry players who come to the park everyday and give 100%, instead of watching some over priced players who have nothing to play for.

well as I am not a cubs fan. i do however agree with your comments. my only question that I have for you as far as building around someone, dont you think castro is one player you build around or are you thinking the jury is still out on him.

Just curious... what do you think they've been doing since the Ricketts took control?

Ya, and this year we'll see what Brett Jackson and Chris Archer are made of.

We have a young core to build upon those youngs guys are our future....I think it wouldn't be bad to bring in a FA or two

but it's not like we shouldn't spend some money on our farm system....a good farm system combined with our young core and some veteran guys....i like that for the future

Still think we should establish a Venezuelan Summer League team and a Liga Paralela Team to bring in even more prospects.

That's what the Cubs need to do invest more money into development of young players.
After their investment to get a return would be to let them come up to the big leagues and get that OJT. Tired of hearing they need more experience.

I really don't see what the Ricketts family have done to improve the quality of play except to raise the prices.
I've been employed with the same company for 20 yrs and have gone through 5 owners. It seems the new managment team sits back and observes, then makes those needed changes. I hope this holds for the Cubs.

They've been in control for 1 year. Were you really expecting a huge change in just one year?

And as to your prior post, I agree, except they need minor league experience first so they aren't overpowered and lose their confidence. We don't need any more Corey Patterson, Eric Patterson, Felix Pie, etc. busts.

Corey Patterson wasn't a bust, the league just caught up to his swing. Eric Patterson was never supposed to be that good and Felix Pie just got into Lou's dog house. It's not his fault that he is like just about every rookie ever to go into a slump.

I opted to view this post, and I must say that you are missing my point. My point is that the players Need to be given minor league experience first, but he thought they should all be called up and learn of the job. I can see arguing with those examples, but is the concept of minor league experience even debatable?

If you can have them starting at the MLB level, you pretty much have to do it, IMO. Given that they aren't in like A ball, that is. At the MLB level, they will get to face much, much, much better competition, get to work with much better coaches, and prepare for the future.

I still see know need to rush them. If he's talking about Archer and Jackson, then I misunderstood. But if he means Lee or someone, then I disagree. Thanks for clarifying CO. :)

Wrong! again. You were not old enough to know the specifics of the expectations of corey patterson. Corey Patterson was HIGHLY tauted as being this next big thing to come out of baseball. So yes as far as expectations, he was a bust. And a side note: Corey Pattersons expectations were MUCH higher than the expectations of the current up and comer, starlin castro.

Felix Pie being in a doghouse has nothing to do with his career, sure he wasnt liked by Lou, but still NEVER lived up to the hype that as given to him.

So the common denominator is they don't live up to their expectations.... sounds like 99.9% of all prospects everywhere. I don't really consider them to be busts just because they don't live up to expectations.

I wouldn't say Patterson is a bust, unless we're going by expectations...

I mean, he has had some really good seasons, some meh seasons, and some awful seasons. He's a hit or miss. I would say a bust is one who doesn't ever make a positive impact in the MLB, something that Patterson has done.
