As a moderator I would have expected more out of you.

It's fine. Dews closed the last thread and this will start a new discussion.

It didn't need to be closed, now conversation gets lost in the shuffle (not complaining, just notifying haha).

I wouldn't mind the Cubs making Cespedes as their splash for this offseason. It is a risk, but the guy that is on those videos he has released is a freak physically. That doesn't always translate to the baseball field, but he certainly would go a long way towards making the OF more athletic in Wrigley.

Can we at least rename this thread since it is more than just intrigued at this point?

^^^ you posted that in the other thread, so instead of changing it I created a new one for the newest and more blunt rumor.

again, it is the most upfront rumor with the cubs and cespedes.

wrong, you are complaining, just about nothing.

how was that last page in that old thread? was it really that full of substance? pick your battles.

very small risk. not like he is going to pull down a teams payroll.

Depends what he gets. If he gets more than Chapman than it is a sizeable chunk for a guy that hasn't ever faced more than high A (or whatever they estimate Cuba's level) pitching before, but you are right the risk is small compared to the amount a guy like Darvish got.

From other thread...

Can you start writing articles again? Ya see I like the Onion, but I need something like that with sports. you seem to be the perfect guy for it. The only issue would be that the writers for the onion know they are writing fictional shit and you would actually believe it, nonetheless it would be great reading.

What isn't realistic there? Cespedes is going to get around 40MM & Soler is only going to be at ~A-ball.

Cespedes has looked pathetic in the DWL.

Dude can't hit breaking stuff.

Probably has to do with him not playing baseball in ~9 months.

Young hitting core of Cespedes, Castro, Jackson, and Rizzo could be good start.

It might be a little of both...he's rusty, and he isn't as good as suggested by his overblown scouting video. Seems that most scouts looking at him think he has tools that can be useful, though, and being that no one knows how exactly his skills in Cuba will translate to MLB, would have to trust that the scouts know what they're talking about.

As I said previously, blowing $32MM or so for 5-6 years of Cespedes is a relative drop in the bucket for someone who could produce magnitudes above that. If he's a bust, then you're basically paying him about as much as Marlon Byrd so it's not the end of the world.

Gerardo Concepcion Close To Free Agency
By Tim Dierkes [January 18 at 12:53pm CST]
18-year-old Cuban lefty Gerardo Concepcion has established residency in Mexico, agent Jaime Torres told Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com. He should be able to declare free agency and negotiate with Major League teams very soon. The Yankees, Rangers, Cubs, White Sox, and Phillies are among the interested clubs, Rojas tweets.

Concepcion defected from Cuba during a tournament in the Netherlands last June, as did Aroldis Chapman.

I know not Cespedes but could be another Cuban player Cubs go after. Shit just get Cepedes, Soler and Concepion and call team Chicago Cuba
