It might be a little of both...he's rusty, and he isn't as good as suggested by his overblown scouting video. Seems that most scouts looking at him think he has tools that can be useful, though, and being that no one knows how exactly his skills in Cuba will translate to MLB, would have to trust that the scouts know what they're talking about.

As I said previously, blowing $32MM or so for 5-6 years of Cespedes is a relative drop in the bucket for someone who could produce magnitudes above that. If he's a bust, then you're basically paying him about as much as Marlon Byrd so it's not the end of the world.

Part of me feels that 5-6 years for $32 million seems a bit low for him. But we will see.

There are two things we can think if the Cubs give him more than that...

1. Cespedes is probably going to be decent at baseball.

2. The Cubs are fucking nuts.

We won't know until he plays for a month though.

I've heard that he's looking like an Adam Jones type of player... I don't remember if that is floor or middle. Either way, if we get him to be Adam Jones, I think he'd be well worth 7ish million/year, no doubt. I also read that a guaranteed starting spot could be a deal breaker for him. I was always under the assumption that he'd spent some time in AAA, so that'll be interesting to see play out. Lastly, Cespedes would qualify as a prospect, so I would imagine he would be our top prospect, which would put our farm team top 10 range.

Which is exactly what the Theo Administration has been trying to do.

Exactly. I'm still hoping that Thoyer trades Soriano, Byrd, Soto, and Garza. If we're going to retool, I wanna do it balls out.

Cespedes' homer. He crushed that. On the 15th pitch of the AB too!
