Doubront wasn't that bad last year. Don't get me wrong, he's a 4 or 5 at tops but he had a 4.32/3.78 ERA/FIP last year in the AL. Doing a quick look at his stats his issue appears to be the fact he's giving up fewer ground balls than in previous seasons(35.8% this season vs 45.6% last year and a 43.4% career). I don't know if they will be able to turn him around but that's the profile of pitcher they've targeted. Travis Wood was at 32.1% the year prior to coming to the cubs and they've got him up to a career high of 37.2% ground balls this year. Arrieta's up about 5% this year over his career marks of around 40-45%. Feldman last year was up about 7% of the year prior to signing with the cubs. If nothing else he's better rotational depth for AAA. Right now we're looking at Wada who's in his 30's as one of the primary guys who got called up for injury/trade.
