The Cubs will be eliminated either tonight or Friday.
If the Cardinals beat the Dodgers tonight, the Cubs are eliminated.
If the Dodgers beat the Cardinals, there is a tie for the second NL wild card spot. That means on the next night, if one of them wins, the Cubs are eliminated.

Unfortunately, it's no longer possible past Friday. They can still secure the #2 pick if they hold off Colorado and Minnesota, and could potentially catch the Astros for #1, but the Astros are in their own class of suck.
