my first instinct is to say no. mostly because to get him on the active roster, either cashner or stevens would have to be optioned to triple a and both are pitching fairly well right now. i don't know a whole lot about this guy, but if there's potential for him to be a decent starter (better than wells would be nice...), i guess it couldn't hurt to try. i mean even if it doesn't succeed, we're only out jeff baker.

This could be a good trade to get one of the Cubs infielders out.

HELL NO, I don't care who we trade for him, we don't need another GraBlow on the team. Did you watch the Mariners-Cardinals game on ESPN yesterday? He;s a relief pitcher now, and he was looking horrible and almost gave up a home run to Wainwright right after giving up a monstrous blast to Rasmus. Fortunately for him, Muilton Bradley caught Wainwright's blast right up against the wall. I would rather trade Castro for Cedeno straight-up than do this trade (maybe I'm exaggerating).

It's not like Rothschild can really help Snell the same way he helped Silva as you say on your blog either. I'm saying this because rothschild saw a difference in Silva's mechanics from Minnesota and Seattle, and had him revert to the mechanics he used in Minnesota. Snell has never been really successful in the MLB.

Also, Silva was fighting to get his mom to the States the last two+ years. He got her here in February, and said it had been effecting him on the field.

He only wants the Cubs to get him so then they get Hendry fired.

well if that was his motive, why didn't he just say so?! let's get him so hendry and the fat man can get fired!! just kidding.

this is sort of off topic, but i didn't feel like making a new thread for it, but since lilly's contract ends this year, do you think that the cubs will resign him? i want them to extend his contract, but i don't think they will. :(

I would love the Cubs to re-sign him but if the Cubs can get good young prospcts for him, I'm all fo it. Because he is older and the Cubs are getting younger. But if they don't get what theyn want, keep him and try to sign him to an extension.

The Mariners have made it clear that they're shopping Ian Snell, that's why his name has popped up in Chicago. Hendy and Jack Zduriencik (Seatlle's GM) have a good history. However, I don't really see the point in this trade. He's just middle relief/spot starter. The Cubs don't need any more "potential starters." Gorzelanney is enough in the pen. Plus Cashner is a starter and they have Jay Jackson in AAA. I would rather them just bring back Samardzija. He's the same flame out right now with a higher upside.

I just brought this up because the Cubs will either release Chad Tracy or Jeff Baker and I'm afraid of that so maybe the Cubs could get something instead of nothing. That is why I mention it.

Ehh... they don't have to release them, they can DFA them.

Sadly, I think Ted Lilly's days are numbered in Chicago. All his near no-hitter did was raise his trade value. His contract is up after the year and there is very little chance the Cubs are going to turn this around sh he's probably gone if the right deal comes. Even if the Cubs don't find a deal for Lilly I don't see him being resigned. The Cubs are already committed to Zambrano and Dempster for a couple of years as well as Silva for next. If Gorzelanny doesn't get dealt he should be back along with Wells and Samardija. Plus Andrew Cashner has been a starter in the minors and Jay Jackson has been pitching very well at Triple-A Iowa. I think Rickets would rather go with cheaper internal options to start rather than another long-term contract to a mid-30's vet.
