I think Motte might go in favor of Turner if for no other reason than they really liked what Turner was showing before the injury and he's out of options. He'll be up soon.

If we're going to nitpick......

Schwarber was considered the best power hitter in the draft. Best overall hitter was Trea Turner, who I believe fell to 11 or 12 because he got hurt in a US game and his defense at SS needed work because he transitioned to SS from I forget where and was a 1 year starter. Turner won a cew NCAA Awards too.

Both are killing it right now in AA.

Not sure what I've read would agree. MLB.com still has their pre draft 2014 tool grades up. Turner had the following

Scouting Grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 35 | Run: 80 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55 | Overall: 55

Schwarber had

Scouting Grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 65 | Run: 40 | Arm: 40 | Field: 40 | Overall: 55

Considering we're not talking run/defense it's pretty clear both Schwarber's power and hit grades were better. But in terms of other guys, Alex Jackson(60/60), Nick Gordon(55/40), Bradley Zimmer(55/50), Michael Conforto(50/60), Max Pentecost(55/45), Derek Hill(50/45), Michael Chavis(60/55), Jacob Gatewood(45/65), Monte Harrison(50/55), Casey Gillaspie(60/60), Derek Fisher(55/55), and A.J. Reed(55/60).... those are the guys in the top 30 and none of them had a higher hit grade with only Jackson Chavis and Gillaspie matching it. The only one matching his power was Gatewood. So when you put those two together like I said, he was the best hitter in the draft pretty easily.

I would be surprised if he did not become a rotation option

Is that for this year? Because that's been VERY debatable in 2012-2014 with what you've suggested, Boo. Big time kool aid slurping going on.

You can't tell me at the time in 2012, Almora was 'BPA' ahead of Appel. I call bullshit.

2013 with picking Bryant came down to the wire if I recall. Before the pick, many fans were 50-50 on him and Gray.

2014 it was greatly thought that the Cubs picked Schwarber because they knew he'd be a low cost to sign, definitely not because he was the best on the board. He was not the best hitter available, or even Catcher available at the time (Max Pentecost.) He then chanced it on some 'may not sign' guys in later rounds and signed them.

There is a formula here. Epstein is taking the best hitting that's cost permitted based on his spending pool within balance of the top 10 picks; he spent more in 2013 because he could with his larger pool. He takes hitting talent then bulk drafts substandard, not TOR pitching talents. Except apparently an 18 year old with TJ this past year.

I'm saying that needs to change. Take a fucking chance. Draft TOR pitching that will be available at 9.

Didn't you say that McLeod runs the show? If so, are you doubting who he and his staff are looking at and drafting?

Sorry, but it doesn't make me feel any worse that Almora isn't cutting it right now, because Appel and Gray aren't exactly lights out either in the minors.

Bryant is up, and Schwarber is knocking on the door. If Kyle is anything remotely close to Bryant from the left side of the plate to go along with Rizzo, we will all be thanking the scouting department as the Cubs will have the best and most feared trio of hitters in the game.

We will see who their number one is this year, and I don't buy the theory on the Cubs necessarily going less in the first round, to have more money in other rounds. Yes it does happen and I am not saying it doesn't some times.

My thinking is, you don't screw up on your first round pick. It better be a rock solid one, especially that high.

Almora hasn't progressed like some had hoped including me, and hopefully, if nothing else, he at least brings the defense to the big leagues for us, or someone else via a trade.

They won't hit in the draft all of the time, but I will gladly take two out of three picks moving forward named Bryant and Schwarber, any day of the week.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Seattle Sounders FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Unless something wonderful falls into the Cub's lap then I agree about standing pat. I don't think a team is going to give up a top tier starter at any point soon so giving up future players for short term success probably isn't what the Cubs are going to do.

But you never know as the season progresses.

I thought the sports media consensus was that Russel would eventually be a much better SS than Castro, and that playing him at 2B was just a way to plug him into the lineup until he moves over to his true spot. Was I misinformed?
