Some indicate its a MLB player, possibly a pitcher

So im guessing either wood jackson or wada is involved...

I just heard Dan Straily is going to the Astros.

I doubt that's all.

Looks like we posted at the same time. Mods feel free to delete the other thread.

Nice pick up. I'm guessing Alcantara goes back to 2nd with Baez starting at AAA?

So that's now Shark and Hammel for half a season, for Russell, McKinney and a year of Fowler.

I like his plate discipline, but am reading a description of his play in CF as "abysmal".

I have no desire to see bad defense. Teams get killed by bad defense.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Surely Castillo or another player is involved. Perhaps this also makes Valbuena expendable and they make Alcantara a super-sub?

Adding a guy like Fowler makes one of the INF guys expendable and perhaps paves the way for a Zimmerman trade?

Luis Valbuena and Straily

Gonna miss Valbuena but I like the addition given the teams need for an OF

Going to miss having a guy at 3rd who can't make a routine play. Not.

Good bat, bad glove for Luis. With Fowler in CF - or splitting CF with Alcantara - AA becomes your 3rd base guy instead of Valbuena. I;m good with that.

Id think Alcantara on his way out (trade)

Unless they dump LaStella, no need to have 2 players that are basically the same on bench. .switch hitting utility type

Valbuena has to stick, he the best LH hitter off bench they have and a veteran presence. .

To add a guy like Fowler, you are going to have to give up some ML talent. The bench takes a hit with the loss of Valbuena but the starting lineup gets a significant boost. Fowler had a OBP over .120 higher than Alcantara

He is also a switch hitter

There is not a "huge void" at 3rd. Valbuena was a decent bat who couldn't field the position. AA will play there, or Olt. Or maybe even LaStella. It's a matter of 12-15 games. No big deal at all.

@mlbtraderumors: The Astros have officially announced that they've acquired Luis Valbuena and Dan Straily from the Cubs for Dexter Fowler

Scratch what I said about Valbuena. ..

Maybe this move indicates bryant starting day 1..

Love the trade, gave up little for a 29 YO leadoff CFer... im sure he will be extended

Fangraphs says he is 4th among CF's in Wrc+ in 2014

Welp...Valbuena was part of the trade, so maybe they really are going to give AA a shot at the super sub position. AA has a lot more pop in his bat than LaStella, doesn't he?

Saw that after I posted... id hope they stick with AA over LaStella..

I do think losing Valbuena weakened the bench hitting wise even more, especially from left side now..
