Meh, I'm still not watching until they win 3 straight...I'm not even remotely invested until then...I've had a much happy last few weeks than a lot of cubs fans.

The point isn't just spending.. It's spending wisely..

Which would we rather have a Fielder contract plus a few very minor pickups or a bunch of decent guys for the same price?

I just want them to get good players. I'd love for them to get either Pujols or Prince for the right amount of years (I'm more concerned with years than money) and then get some decent guys to surround them with.

I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too

i understand there frustrating but can you call yourself a true fan when u dont watch them when they lose? Only watching them when they only win is not a true fan. The fans that stick with them on bad years are the true fans.... I have missed couple games here and there but when im home and there on i watch them.

I've stuck w/ them through several bad years...more than I care to remember. I still watch snippets and check box scores...just won't watch an entire game. Made the decision when I realized I was bothered by losses more than half the team was. Don't regret, and still am a true fan. Just expect better.

i think Fans take the losses ALOT harder then the players do cause the players know its such a long season they cant get hyped up after loss or even wins. im sorry but checking the box score to see if they won or not is not a true fan. I understand its very frustrating to watch and hear but i feel i am a die hard fan cause i will watch even during there 8 game losing streak. I used to get into bad moods also when Cubs lose but now i am just enjoying the game of baseball when i watch the team. They still frustrate me espicially when they let Albert hit 2 game ending HR back to back days but i still watched the following day

Well, to be fair, I only get one game a week on avg anyway...living in KY and having dish network isn't all that cubs-friendly...

But, more to your point, I understand that fans take losses harder than players do, but when the players aren't going 100%, I'm forced to question their motivation. Tired of seeing players jog out of the box and not hustle out grounders, make dumb base-running mistakes, take bad routes to fly balls...it just gets old, bro. I'm still a fan...just taking a little mid-season hiatus until they WANT to win games.

It's unlikely that they get back into contention but there's nothing wrong with a little hope. As it is, they're closer to the #1 pick in the 2012 draft than they are to the World Series, so I'll still hope that they win, but I'm not going to be too sad if they don't :D

Rather have the superstar with other minor pickups...Cubs already have decent guys on team..they need a TRUE 3 hole hitter...Baker, Montanez batting 3rd is A JOKE.

This. Just because Pujols would cost a lot, that doesnt mean its not money spent wisely. Is there a more sure thing than Pujols?

What would classify as money not spent wisely is someone like Derrek Lee or some other next tier player. The thing that sucks about all these type of guys is that if one of them has a good year, Hendry becomes their friend for life even thought everyone else knows theyre likely not going to have that kind of a good year again. We end up getting stuck with these guys and grumbling to ourselves, "why is he still on the roster again?...oh yeah, he had a good year in 2004 or 2008."

yea...

Hey Hendry, spend that money first, find a coach who can put together a lineup and knows how to use a bullpen and understands how to pitch to the best player in the game (dont pitch to him) then I will spend the money to catch all Cubs games on tv...

until then, I will just watch the games on WGN when im home

I would take Beane long term over Fielder anyday. If Beane has any interest in coming to Chicago Ricketts better give him whatever he wants.

Think about how good Oakland would be if they could spend money.I cant believe why Beane has stayed there this long he is a great GM in a bad situation no one goes to A's games.

I'd love it but no way it happens.

I would give Beane Fielder type money though.

Plus Beane is signed through 2014, and the last time a team tried to trade for Beane it would have cost them Kevin Youkilis. This would probably cost us at least Brett Jackson.

Beane owns part of the A's.

Eh its only 4%. I am sure we could give him 2% (which is close to the equivalent).

His contract is the bigger issue, and the A's won't let him go. That and there is no indication he would ever want to come here.
