BOURBONNAIS -- The Bears lost games last season when they ranked 27th in the NFL in the red zone.
That was the focus of the 7-on-7 drills in both practices Wednesday and Jay Cutler looked sharp, particularly in the evening sessions when he completed 9 of 12 passes with seven for touchdowns. Close to the goalline, he looked for big targets, directing nine of the throws to Devin Aromashodu, Greg Olsen or Desmond Clark. But it was Devin Hester who made a terrific catch in the corner between Tim Jennings and Craig Steltz.
"We need to score down in the red zone and it has been encouraging," coach Lovie Smith. "We worked an awful lot in the OTA's too on some of the red zone offense and defense. You have to get touchdowns down there."
It was a big night overall for Aromashodu. Cutler targeted him on eight of his 22 throws, completing seven. He has been working consistently as the No. 3 receiver in the offense.
