Deaf vs Blind

Which impediment do you think is worse? Blind or Deaf?

This thread brought to you by 50 minutes last night where I woke up, couldn't fall back to sleep, and started thinking about that commercial for that drug they are selling for blind people with a circadian rhythm problem.

I had a deaf cousin- he was pretty happy his whole life and got around just fine, so I would rather be deaf... by a long shot.

blind, well, that seems about a thousand times more challenging than being deaf.

Being blind is much worse. You're completely reliant on others for transportation (no driving for you! You take bus!), reading becomes difficult, the vast majority of modern media is out of your reach (tv, internet, smart phones, computers in general; all pretty much useless). I could go on, but it's pretty hard to argue that the deaf don't have it considerably easier than the blind.

I'd rather be deaf. It seems being blind as already stated would be so much more of a difficult life.

I had a buddy (he actually dated my sister first and then we became friends) who was deaf. He was basically just like everyone else, except you had to write things down (or use AIM to chat away from each other) to communicate anything extensive.

When we would play basketball or video games, he could tell by your body language and facial expression how mad you were and he'd laugh, then you'd talk shit knowing he wouldn't hear you, but then he'd read your lips and know exactly what you said.

Being blind? Can't imagine not being able to know what time it is, where I am walking, what people look like, what really anything looks like.

Being blind you could still drive but it would probably not work out very well. Maybe if you had a really smart dog to help until he sees a squirrel.

I agree with everyone picking deaf. I've also heard being deaf is the only disability where people blame you for it. They get annoyed a ***** at you. Makes sense and that part of it would suck.
