In my opinion, only good can come from this. Now that he has been called out for it, it will be in the back of his mind going forward regardless of what he says.

I think the point was made and the message got through.

You're probably right, though it's a shame it took epic failure in the playoffs to get the point across when we had plenty of times where it was an issue in the regular season that should have taught the same lesson.

Its funny though Doug but right when Doug Collins said it in the final seconds of the game, I immediately thought about your podcast with you saying that its lucky Noah fouled Pierce and he missed because we would have had no chance to win it in the end.

And low and behold the very situation comes up, Allen hits a shot and we had no chance to win or tie.

Great call.

But another way to look at it, it could have been worse. He basically did the boneheaded move twice in a row and it only burned us once. And now that he has been called out on it, I dont expect it will happen like that again. Knock on wood.

One can only hope that he learns from his mistakes.

I don't see that happening at home coz Vinny wanted to have crowd quiet down a bit with every time out and every time Boston made a run (even if it's a small run).

Since it's on our floor, he will be okay for the next 2 games.

I just hope it doesn't happen in Boston again or if we advance in the 2nd round ( :praying really hard: ).

I don't know what everyone feels about Hubie Brown but I think he's one of the most knowledgeable basketball minds out there

He was on Mike&Mike today and they asked him about Vinny and the timeouts and played a clip of Vinny saying he had no regrets.

Hubie said when he's at a coaching clinic that the first thing they tell them is you can't take your timeouts with you. He went on to say the Bulls only won 12-13 road games and being a young team at a hostile place that Vinny did the right thing. He went more into it so you might wanna listen to it later. I was driving so didn't get word for word.

He said that you have to take timeouts quicker on the road than you do at home. Keep in mind he said since the Bulls are a young team. I don't think he was talking about a veteran team just about handling a young team

I would definitely listen to it when they put it up

I think Hubie has some very valid points there. But if he does the same thing at home at all in this series (if the game is close in the 4th that is), whats going to be the excuse for taking the time outs then? We'll see what happens on Thursday (well Friday morning for me) I guess

Thanks for the recap

Was Miller on the court at the time? I believe so. He's not so young. Ben's been in the league 5 years. He wont a title at UCONN. Salmons and Hinrich are almost 30. Rose and Noah are the only 2 young guys, and both of them have endured pressure situations before in college.

The guy is handling this team like they are a bunch of high schoolers. They're professionals. He's done this all year. Thabogate vs. Miami, Dallas, San Antonio, Philadelphia, Game 1 against the Celtics....all of these games, the Bulls had a chance to win or tie, but they were forced to go the full court because he used all of his timeouts. IT'S INEXCUSABLE. I love Hubie, but he hasn't been around this team all year. It's a pattern with this guy, and he still doesn't realize it.

I agree and we'll see what happens tomorrow. It was good having someone like him explain it the way he did which my recap did him no service. I would listen to it when they put it up on the site

Of our team only Gordon and Kirk are from our playoff run which Kirk plays 20 minutes so BG is the only one play big minutes. Salmons is almost 30 but it was noted before the series he's played a total of 20 minutes in the playoffs and Tyrus, Noah and Rose are all young and don't have experience. So of this roster only Miller,Gordon and Kirk have been in the playoffs and Miller and Gordon are the only two getting major burn so yes this is a young team Fred and that's why Vinny is handling it the way he has.

Well Fred and DT have been right about Vinny with these timeouts. It's funny how DT talked about it on the last show and the exact same thing happens in Game 2.

I never talked about the timeout thing much, and to be honest I was so happy Pierce missed the FT in Game 1 I didn't even think about it.

But when it comes to Vinny I can understand the guys saying he's still a rookie give him time. But I can also understand the guys that a ripping him.

I'll just say that hopefully he learns, and soon, and not be like former Cubs manager Dusty Baker, who has been doing the same stupid s**t over and over. If Vinny can learn and not do it anymore, great.

Playoffs or not the game is still the same game. The coaches will have already drilled the general gameplan into the players over the past months, so if they haven't got it in their heads already I think it's a lost cause.

I just have a hard time believing that after planning for days before the match you can really impart that much more information in the short amount of time the coach has during a time out.

These guys play basketball for a living, so I don't think it's unreasonable to compare this to the "realm world". If in your job your manager randomly came over to give you a 30 second pep talk do you really think it would affect your job performance significantly? Do you think it'd help you cope with pressure better? Or would it just be useless noise?

Well stated Fred. I dont understand why the Bulls get labeled as a 'young' team. Rose, Thomas, and Noah are the only young guys on this team who actually play significant minutes. Granted BG is 26, Deng is still young, but they've been in the league 5 years. And are playoff tested. This team is filled with playoff vets, who don't need a coach panicking Van Gundy-style everytime the opponent makes a small run.

It has irked me all year the way Vinny has handled his overall gameplan. Whether it's failing to ever draw up an inbounds play, let alone a game-winning play, playing the 'Cooler', or blowing timeouts after a 3-pt swing, this guy just lacks overall coaching fundamentals. Perhaps he should have taken Hubie's course and rode the training-wheels for awhile before trying a big boy two-wheeler.
