I want to talk about Deng and what I think will happen next year for him. He is done for this year including the playoffs. I know a lot of people want to dump him for virtually nothing this summer. That however is not reasonable to expect and to think he is included in a big name trade is not very likely as well. So that means he is the starting SF on opening day next year. Now I don't think he will ever make that contract seem worthwhile but I am of the position that he can and will be a solid #3 or #4 man for this team. Not worth the contract but not an albatross either. I fully expect him next year to play 70 games for us, average 16 points and 6 rebounds a game, shoot 47% from the field and roughly 35-37% from 3 point line and be a solid player for us. Not a star, not worth as much as he makes but certainly be a good contributor to this team. I am hoping for him, Rose(18 PPG), Salmons(18 PPG) and Bosh(22 PPG) being our main 4 players with Miller, Noah, and Hinrich the 3 role players filling in around them.

I think Deng is untradeable. If the economy continues to tank, and it probably will, then Loul will be one of the highest paid players in the league by the time his contract comes to an end. Even if he starts playing like he did in his best year, it will be hard to justify the money being spent, because it's pretty obvious that average contract values will continue to plummet. There are too many teams in this league who are losing a ton of cash this year, and they will continue to lose money in the foreseeable future until contracts get in line with profits. The Mavericks, for example, lost over 20 million last year according to Forbes. Some estimate that number could double this year.

So we're stuck with him, for better or worse. Let's hope he gets out of this mental and physical funk. I like the guy, but you can't argue the fact that overall, he's sucked this year. He had about a 2 week period where he played really well after his first injury. Does anyone in the disagree that Salmons so far has been a tremendous improvement on both ends of the floor?

Sharing contributions between 11 different players may have not been the most surprising statistic, but the interesting fact that Patrick Kane wasn't involved in any of the 6 goals scored and wasn't one of the 11 contributions. Maybe it isn't a surprise with his play lately, but one might think he would find his way when the team is flying on all cylinders.

It was clear that the Sabres were beat by a superior team, not due to talent alone but effort and determination. Neither of those definitions seem to epitomize Kanes game as of late and the fact that he couldn't pounce on the lowly Sabres is further proof that something is wrong with him.

The recent skid for the superstar has everyone wondering where in the world is Patrick Kane? Disinterested, lack of effort, low confidence, mentally checked out, unfocused, all seem to be definitions of his play lately. Its not just one game, but a full month of bad hockey portrayed by Kane, at this point it's impossible to blame his production on snakebites. At the same time, it's hard for me to believe that someone with Kanes pride would just simply stop trying on a nightly basis.

The fact is, there is no deep meaning behind Kanes lack of production. He's not injured, it's not a matter of effort and there is no snake. It's his head. No, not a concussion but a simple problem that many players manage to fall upon. Maybe you grip your stick too tightly or think twice about what you need to do during your shift. It's a head game.

Regardless of Kanes destruction and Patrick Sharp out of the line-up due to injury, the Blackhawks seem to be trucking along just fine lately.

Jonathan Toews continued his domination over the NHL with 2 goals and the rookies lit up the box score again. The Blackhawks had very little trouble running right over the struggling Sabres from the get-go despite surrendering the first goal and as the game went on, the Blackhawks continued to gain momentum.

Andrew Shaw got the ball rolling for the Blackhawks with his 5th goal of the year, a trend that many people are coming to expect from the young gun. Soon after, Shaw provided an effective screen in front for Brent Seabrook to blow the puck by Enroth, hit the post and allow Toews to pot his 1st of the game.

In the 2nd period, Pomminville struck again but it would stand as the last goal that Buffalo would score and the onslaught begun. Marian Hossa finally capitalized on his flurry of chances along with Jimmy Hayes netting his 4th of the year to give the Blackhawks a 4-2 advantage.

The 3rd period was more of the same, Dave Bolland hit the back of the net along with Jonathan Toews for his 2nd power-play goal of the game to put the nail in the coffin and hand the Sabres their 10th straight road loss. The Blackhawk win comes as their 4th straight at home, outscoring their opponents 20-to-9.

SHOULD THEY STAY OR SHOULD THEY GO?

The Blackhawks will need to come to a conclusion on the future of Jimmy Hayes and Andrew Shaw. Joel Quenneville continues to be impressed by the young duo so perhaps they may find a home in the NHL this season after all.

"They have been real good," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "Tonight was just one more real solid game from both of them.

"They made some nice individual plays. Shawsie continues to be effective in a lot of ways, and Hayes finished off one of the nicest passes we've seen this year."

Although Jimmy Hayes has seen limited ice-time he has still been incredibly productive. Meanwhile, Shaw is beginning to get an upwards of 18-20 minutes per night and has also seen success in producing for the Blackhawks.

No doubt these two players are important assets for the Blackhawks, not only right now but for the future as well. The question remains, will they stay or will they go?

BLACKHAWKS THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Jonathan Toews

2. Andrew Shaw

3. Jimmy Hayes

WTF is going on in Buffalo, talk about a coach that needs to go and a team that desperately lacks leadership. Looking at their lineup on paper they've got a pretty good team but they just don't look motivated at all. Pretty pathetic showing from them.

Good win for the hawks, took it to a team that they needed to but its an absolute travesty what's going on in Buffalo

I swear Shaw should have had an assist on the first Taves goal. The shot from Seabs hits something ( I think Shaw).....

LOL as I type I see that they have given Shaw an assist.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
It was weird watching a team that made so many fundamental errors on D that WASN'T us in one of our slumps this year.

Rib aside, great game by just about everyone. And, for those that caught the Vs. broadcast, it was good to see Bickell score two from the pressbox. He should stay there since he's contributing.

Completely forgot that Bickell was a scratch tonight, guess that shows how noticeable he's been. Gotta imagine with Shaw and Hayes playing as well as they are, Bickell's ice time is going to be very limited

When Sharp comes back you have to wonder if Bickell will be seeing ice at all. Can't be sending either Shaw or Hayes down again right now. These 2 kids have been amazing. If only he had trade value. At this point I would take a late pick.

I was feeling bad for Hayes having only what 4 goals in maybe nine games? That goal he scored was a beaut!

Great game, but shame about the Kruger goal.

Such a beautiful play by Shaw should have been rewarded.

Totally agree. I felt bad for my 92 year old gramma in Buffalo. I know she watches every game and get really mad when they play like crap.

I think I'll give her a condolence call tonight so she can vent.

Get this someone said Hayes and Shaw are going to be great checking line players one day.....wut? checking line my ass, they are solid 2nd line players hell I think if they keep it up they are first line quality with no room on the first line of the hawks for them. I mean 7 points in 10 games and 6 points in 8 games. Yeah those are checking line numbers....
