Rizzi and him were together in Miami, Rizzi was linked to Denver but if he's got a good relationship with Allen it makes sense that they're going together as a package considering the overlap between both jobs.

Gotta think Allen is coming here because of the roster, there's a lot of good pieces and plenty of capital to reshape it in his vision.
Man i really hope this Dennis Allen thing happens and don't know much about Rizzi but i remember, while he was interim HC for the Saints, hearing that the players love him and love playing for him so hope we can get both. Good to hear the connection he has from his Miami days with BJ and the obvious connection with Dennis Allen who he took over for with the Saints.

All he should need for this defense is some more pass rush because we're good at LB and the secondary. Then after next year we can get rid of T.Edmunds and free up some more money, unless he just loves T.Edmunds. Edmunds was a really good player for Buffalo so maybe Allen's scheme is a better fit for him.

As a Defensive Coordinator, I'm sure he'll be glad to go from a Dome to Bear's Weather.

Scheme

Allen’s defensive philosophy is rooted in the traditional 4-3 side of things. His base is that of closed-post coverage though Tampa and Quarters are utilized as he sees fit. Dime, Nickel, 4-2-5, 3-3-5, you name it, Allen’s likely tried it.

Allen’s influence and prioritization of versatility among the defensive backfield is evident when you pop the hood. Defensive backs in Allen’s scheme are required to do it all:

  • change picture post-snap (late rotations, disguises, etc.)
  • man coverage strengths
  • hook defender at safety
  • deep half principles
  • backfield vision in zone
  • blitz ability

Defenses under Allen are vast in their ability to show multiple fronts and coverages off of them. He’s also shown a strong ability to take advantage of mismatches based on personnel. Below is a fantastic example of Allen’s multiple scheme at work.

Is there anything on him that shows what he runs in the 4th quarter? If I see he plays prevent defense as soon as the 4th quarter starts, then I don’t want him. Or if he plays his CB 10 yards away.

Allen would be a home run.

Better news is the offense will have coaching upgrades at most positions including oline.

Should he be the guy for DC, here's a look at free agents from the Saints:

Grok on Allen

Dennis Allen served as a defensive coordinator in the NFL before becoming a head coach. Here's a brief overview of his tenure in that role:

  • New Orleans Saints (2015-2021): Dennis Allen was the defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints during this period. Under his coordination, the Saints' defense was notably successful:
    • 2017: The defense ranked 14th in points allowed and 9th in yards allowed.
    • 2018: They had a strong year, finishing 10th in points allowed and 19th in yards allowed, but were particularly effective in the playoffs, contributing significantly to the team's run to the NFC Championship.
    • 2019: The defense was one of the best in the league, finishing 4th in points allowed and 7th in yards allowed, leading the league in turnovers forced with 32.
    • 2020: Continued strong performance with 7th in points allowed and 10th in yards allowed.
    • 2021: The defense slipped slightly, finishing 13th in points and 10th in yards, but still had moments of brilliance.

Allen's defenses were known for their versatility, aggression, and effective use of blitz packages. His schemes often revolved around creating confusion with varied looks and pressures, which helped in generating turnovers and disrupting opposing offenses.

  • Oakland Raiders (2011-2014): Before his role with the Saints, Allen was the defensive coordinator for the Raiders. The defense under him had mixed results:
    • 2011: The defense was middle of the pack, ranking 17th in points allowed and 13th in yards allowed.
    • 2012: They ranked 22nd in points allowed and 20th in yards allowed.
    • 2013: A slight uptick, finishing 20th in points allowed and 16th in yards allowed.

Allen's time as a defensive coordinator is generally viewed positively, especially his tenure with the Saints, where he helped shape a defense that was often among the league's elite. His approach has been praised for adaptability and for maximizing the talent on the roster. However, like any coordinator, his success was also influenced by the personnel available to him.

Just run interviews with Washington and Hightower.

I answer this question everyday. It has to be external candidates and in person. It’s a stupid rule that’s no longer needed.
